The government had tried to control mutants, and in a war that far exceeded the destuctive powers of those in the past, the government toppled as cities become burned out shells of crumbling unstable buildings. The new power in what was the United States of America was the strong. States remained fairly intact, as major highways took the worst of the damage. The only people who flew were those with wings, or had built a plane. Fuel was scarce as trade ceased between countries.

This was the world I knew for the last five years, recalling little to nothing before the last atomic blast that had killed or mutated most of the population.

(I haven't decided which state this will be set in so let me know if you have the perfect one in mind)

Shadow walker

I move threw the woods silently in the form of the black panther I keep a wary eye on the town not trusting the human not after what the military did to me. I shudder at the memories my eyes seem to go blank as I remember the experiments they did trying to figure out how I healed so fast and shape shift. They kept me is a room that recycled the air so I couldn’t just tern to mist and seep out. I shake my head clearing it before the truly painful memories boil up not wanting to remember.

I finely think I have no choice I need supplies I change stretching my human mussels much like a cat would. I look down at my close that’s one of the things that rally troubled the scientists how did my close change with me. I shrug thinking I don’t rely care. I start walking in the direction of the town keeping a wary eye out for any trouble.

Huguenot

Huguenot walked through the burnt out shell of what used to be his neighborhood in the Bronx. He picked up a car that was blocking an apartment building and tossed it aside like a piece of trash. Hard to believe that the last time I was here I was just a small little mutant, now look at me. He thought to himself. Im a huge, fucking monster now. Yea im strong but look at me Im a freak. He punched the side of the building and it started to crumble around him. He slowly started walking away. That part of my life is over now. Its time to start a new. He started walking towards Manhattan or at least what was left of it...

Jimmy

"Well, what have we here? Small cupple, out for a little walk, a little romance? In this town?"

Scream, manical laugh and choking sound

"You boyfriend should learn to keep his head on. Opps, guess it popped off, sorry about that"

More laughter, than a muffeled feminie voice

"Ohh, come on, you can take it. Mmmm, yea, I know, it just seems to get longer, huh?"

Laughter, than the death rattle of the girl. Out from an alley way comes a small man, with a broad, huge smile on his face

Violet

The pain I felt inside was visible as plants got sickly and died as I walked along. Animals seemed to know better than to get in my way as I walked along the highway, wondering how this patch survived the war. I wasn't sure what I was looking for, but I knew I would find it in the South.

Liberty

She called herself Liberty and dressed in good ol' red, white and blue. She was a mutant, a product of the war, but she was not bitter. She had seen what the devastation had brought to ordinary people and only hoped to protect those around her as best she could.

At 5'8", and with long blonde hair and dazzling blue eyes, she was a beauty. Even the huge, dove-like wings on her back only seemed to add to her loveliness and purity. For pure was what she was. Pure of mind, and certainly of body.

She drifted down to the ground and put down the two children she had just rescued from a collapsing building. She had already saved their parents and now, despite the loss of their home, they were full of thanks. She knew the homeless in this small area had started to band together, started to rebuild and takeover old, tumbledown buildings. Each brought their own unique skills and a hope for survival. She explained this to the family. They would be ok, and she would check on the project later to see how she could help out.

Huguenot

Huguenot was on the outskirts of Manhattan. The city was in shambles, all of the tall buildings were destroyed. He walked by what looked like an burnt out building. Hey look at the freak, look at that fucking monster. Someone shouted through the windowless hole. I just kept walking I had heared it all before. Hey you fucking freak too good to talk to us. The man said. I truned around and saw that it was only two guys. One was big but looked slow, the other was small, he had four arms. You are tresspassing in New Boy turf. The small one said to me. You are nothing but a fucking freak a monster, I bet your family saw you after the war and told your freak ass to get lost, is that it. The big one said. I lost it after he talked about my family. I grabbed his head and squished it in my hand, I felt his brain ooze onto my hand and drip off. I looked at the little one as he starte to run away. I stomped the ground sending a wave towards him, it knocked him off his feet and onto his back. I stood over him, looking down at him. Get away from me you damn freak. He screamed at me. I took my foot and stomped on his chest as if it were a ciggerette butt. He was out for sure. I looked down at his dead body and said I am whatever you say I am.

Violet

I felt pulled along and noticed the decaying dead bodies strewn here and there. There was a lack of animals around except a few scavengers here and there. They all avoided me, some things were easier to mutate than others.

I kept moving losing track of time as I take step after step.

Violent Violet

*kick*

My head hurt as the highway blurred and suddenly I was looking upon a dark dismal city of sin and corruption. I felt right at home as I walked toward it noticing others that were swarming the city. Evil looking creatures, a few too stupid to live and I smiled as I saw others like me.

I would fit right in I thought even as I sensed a blurry flying figure saving some children out of rubble, she seemed close yet distant perhaps 30 or so miles away. I had this feeling she would come to us soon enough, even though I didn't know who US was yet.

Liberty

Liberty hovered in the air, watching the building collapse and checking to make sure nobody was still in there. She was dirty, tired and hurt. But this had been a good day. Today she had been in time. She had seen the look of blessed relief as she brought the child down to the waiting mother. She knew she had done well. And she could relax.

She flew over to another building, relaxing on its roof and slowly drifted to sleep. And she was in another day. The day she had been too late. The day the burning timber blocked her way. And in the dream she was herself, hearing the child's dying coughs. And in the dream she was the child, hiding from the flames until the smoke overpowered him. And in the dream she was the mother, watching the superhero bring the corpse of her baby down to her. And she screamed. She awoke with her scream filling the sky, shaking, a cold sweat soaking her to the skin. It was like this every night. She wondered if she would ever do enough to escape being too slow then.
