I think it's time to tell the U.N. that it's been a fun ride, but it no longer has a moral mandate to protect the world from itself, so it should go ahead and disband.

What say you?

Imperfect as it is, something like the UN is necessary.

I say it sounds like the equivalence of a "Government can't do anything!"/"Government does too much!" duality. But for the UN.

It should be what it was meanty to be, and mostly is: A codified forum for international diplomacy.

Everything else is it's members' (the US included) skewed expectations of it's ability.

According to the report, U.N. staffers in Colombo didn't think it was their responsibility to help civilians being used as human shields. Casualty reports were intentionally misleading. The NY office didn't think it necessary to instruct Colombo otherwise.

This is a failure of their primary mandate, not some "oops, they goofed" moment.

That the people you are supporting and voting for desire above all else to turn us into a one world government with the UN leading. You will be paying taxes to it and surrendering sovereignty to it in the same way that the Federal government turned the States into mere districts.

Trying to cherry-pick a few negatives out of the perceived good'n Peace is not going to sway your leadership and is sure as hell going to piss off those who have not been on board with the UN for lo these many years...

I think the UN Security Council is essential.

As for the General Assembly, a waste of diplomats and dollars.

All UN programs (themselves) would benefit from a unbiased audit and consideration given to the continuation of each program, at what expense level, or elimination.

In terms of actual benefits and meaningful collaboration for member states organizations like APEC are now doing a far better job than the UN.

Yeah, it was real essential when Obama decided the best way to handle the Russian incursion into Georgia was to run it by the UN Security Council where Russia enjoys a veto...

;) ;)

It is tits on a boar hog and increasingly corrupt and populated with tin-horns blowing loudly about how evil the US is, but please, please, please, keep the checks coming so we can continue our valuable contributions to humanity and "human rights." And Liberals love it because things they cannot get passed domestically, they can do by international treaty.

i need to spend some time looking for the report. 40,000 people killed in the last four months. we are a brutal species.
