If the stories I self-publish elsewhere include sexually active characters under the age of 18, am I allowed to put links to them on my signature?

  • Please do not blatantly “advertise” for other websites in your signature. We allow non-commercial links to member’s personal websites in sigs, but please do not beg people to click on your link, make it huge and/or flashing, or otherwise be obnoxious. We also reserve the right to remove signatures which link to sites with numerous annoying pop-ups, or any other potentially harmful content. If you turn your signature into an advertisement, we will ask you to change it.
eta - thanks @MrPixel! No, that's not me speaking! They've got a much deeper voice and an American accent.(y)

John, just so @stickygirl 's response isn't lost on you, that's not her speaking, that's a straight quote of the forum rules. Click on the underscored link and you will see all the guidelines in context.

But I've seen links to self-published books on signatures.

Not for me to arbitrate - I'm just pointing toward the forum guidelines. It's up to you if you want to ignore them, but at least you know now. :) YW

You can put links to your stories here, and you can have a link to the published stories page on your Amazon, Smashwords, or Patron account. Only one of them though. That link can be set in your control panel. You may not link to any other sites for reading, especially those that have free works on them.

I think the answer is "yes" if you do it in a way that's not overly conspicuous or blatantly advertising, as stated in the rule cited by Stickygirl above. I wouldn't advertise the fact that there is non-site conforming content at these other locations.

Though that may be somewhat harder now he has been open about it.

Why? Under the age of 18 doesn't necessarily mean kindergarden, child molestation etc.

But I have some ideas in mind where some main characters are in the 15-17 age range, and I cannot age them up without the plot being messed up, so I won't be able to post them here, unless Laurel ever changes her mind about that rule.

You're pushing a very obvious and hard written line for this site, if you did that. The age line is eighteen. 15 - 17 doesn't get by here.

In any event, you need to have content on Lit before you can use this site to promote off-site, which on face value from all of your posts, is all you want to do.

From the trail that you're leaving, you might want to go find yourself another site now. It'll save you the bother when you get your first story rejected, and save us the bother of saying the same thing. Again.

Listen there are rules here. They are perfectly laid out in black and white. Follow them or don't but stop trying to find a loophole in them by asking on the forums. You seem to be making a habit of that.

That's wrong. I have countless fetishes I want to explore on this site.
Get on with it then, start writing. You're wandering around in a hypotheria at the moment. Write something, get it published, get a reaction. There is no short-cut.
