Another Republican flip-flopper.
Those sort of views were prevalent at the time. That does not excuse it. Nor does it excuse the whitewash by those with an agenda about how the Civil War is characterized.
There's no way to get most people to understand or accept that in Lincoln's mind the war was about secession. They prefer to believe it was about slavery.
...rests upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery—subordination to the superior race—is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.
There exists no possible historic doubt that for the government of the Confederate States of America, it was ALL ABOUT SLAVERY ("subordination to the superior race")...
...as VP Alexander Stephens proclaimed in his infamous "Cornerstone" speech as the very essence of the new CSA government:
Verily...
...I believe the absolute moral invalidity of that lone principle was exactly why the South both spiritually and physically lost. And it could possibly be the only reason why I thank God that that government was eradicated.
Conversely, for Lincoln, there can be no possible historic doubt that it was ALL ABOUT SAVING THE UNION, at that time and for posterity...
...even as he acted so unconstitutionally so many times in doing it, ushering in statism to a degree the nation had never known before, to the despicable point where statism has finally overtaken individual liberty as the political soul of the American Idol majority of the USSA today.
Slavery, however, was a back-burner issue to Lincoln...
...his preferred option was to free all American blacks, who he felt, too, were inferior to whites, and aid them in colonization by immediately shipping all American blacks to some other country.
Your lack of reading comprehension shows again. My comment was about Lincoln and his reason for preferring war, not the South's reasons for attempting to secede peacefully from the Union.

And your ego is having its regularly scheduled little hissy fit because I addressed both sides...
...succinctly and more historically perfect than you could ever fantasize doing, wannabe.
Go snivel somewhere else, you racist piece of shit, and have yo mama change your diaper...
...you're dripping snot and shit all over this thread.

For all intents and purposes Stephens was irrelevant.
You could have addressed the other side without quoting me on the first side, dumbass.
There are no angels among us, and damn few demons, if any. This especially applies to the Civil War, in my opinion. The attempt to make everything about right and wrong, black or white, heroes and villains, is senseless. Abe Lincoln was a great man, but he was no angel. Like all of us, he had his flaws, and like all of us, those on the losing side had their virtues.

Wow, touby, pardon me for ever mocking you before...
...but that is definitely some really revelatory, deep, deep shit, Mr. Obvious.
Say, touby...
...since you profess to know so much about "the black man and his culture":
When you post, "There are no angels among us"...
...are you just referring to crackers like you, or does it include those of "us" who can't swim just because they're skin pigmentation is darker than yours?
That would be an incredibly stupid thing to say, and I'm...uh...uh...
...ok, you have a point.
You've made quite a reputation for yourself, eeyore.
Legendary even, eh touby?
Even though you never'll probably get close to achieving any notable reputation on the GB at all...
...I'll still be interested in how your limp rep changes when your wife finally finds out where you actually spend all your time when you tell her you're out playing bridge with the boys. (![]()
)
Eeyore, I've noticed you're fond of quoting certain people interminably to back up scandalous allegations you've made against them, so why don't you quote me proving I made this stupid comment you keep imagining? I invite you to do so.
Which stupid comment, touby?
That you said you don't tell your wife you spend hours on LIT...
...trying to get the 4 female posters on here to show you their pics?
Your imagination is fertile, eeyore, that's for sure. I think you must make this shit up about me, like asking for pics, because it's what you do, but in private, of course. You wouldn't do anything like that except privately, of course, being all holier than though on here like you pose all the time.
"all holier than though"?
"though" what, touby?
Did mama just pull up in the driveway?
touby?
touby?
touby?
I meant holier than thou, obviously.
She came home and caught you spanking your pygmy marmoset to the pics smoot just sent you from Summer Pill Pimp Camp...
...didn't she?
