Hovering over the counter, enjoying being able to actually prepare a meal for her without the utensils magically dancing to do his work for him, he started whistling. His tune was interrupted only by the worried looking woman who he was positive he'd left with all smiles just moments before. What a difference a few minutes could make!
Taken back at first by the questions, he laughed lightly, but stopped when her face showed no sign of humor at all. “Yes baby, I'm safe. It's a very safe town. Like I said, I came here to avoid the more dangerous work. And I'm good at what I do, trained in New York, remember?” he smiled to assure her, but knew he hadn't accomplished it yet. “Besides it's a small town, back up is minutes away no matter where in town I am.”
He set the newly completed sandwiches on the table and took her wrist, leading her to sit down. “Sure, my job is more dangerous then running a shop or something, but the farmers around her have accidents with equipment, restaurants got knives and stoves, and anyone can get run over while crossing the street. Everyday we all go out into the world, risking our lives to chance. I like to see my job as helping others to feel better about that, knowing someone will come for them, just as I know the police and rescue people would come for me if I ever needed it”
He kissed her cheek and set down across from her and poured two glasses of wine. “You do know I'd have delivered this to that bed that's growing cold, right?” He smiles, trying to change the subject back to something far more enjoyable. Somehow if was sure that was just a fleeting dream.
