OOC: This is a closed thread for my dear co-writer Ariosto and myself. If you feel like co-writing with me, please don't hesitate to contact me!
I will draw upon personal memories, as usual....
IC: When the TV evening news announced that a very well known power supply company was going bankrupt even though world famous auditing companies had testified its accounts were OK... Well, it didn't register with Kim at all. The teenage girl was home alone as usual, doing her homework on the kitchen table and wondering if there was anything in the fridge so she could have something to eat for dinner.
A few weeks later, Kim's father told the family (her mom and her younger sister) that the power supply company was closing the factory and that he was on the list of the few managers who were offered a job in California.
Kim went to bed that night, dreaming of her future life in California, a dream state to her since she had only seen it on TV. Little did she know that her life would change indeed, in a way she could not even imagine.
Kim's parents went first on a very short trip to scout for a new home. They came home and described to their daughters a very nice apartment complex, close to the sea. The girls eyes widened when they heard of a swimming pool and the nearby amenities.
It took yet another month, which coincided with the end of the school year, for the family and their belongings to move to California.
Kim's father was quickly back to work. As for her mom, she had already found a job as a nurse at a local hospital.
The two teenage girls were left by themselves again, and had no other choice then to stay home and spent their days at the swimming pool or watching TV. Kim couldn't wait for school to resume: she was so sure that this was going to be an unenventful summer, spent watching over her younger sister and being far away from their family and friends.
And it would have been the case indeed if, one early evening, the two girls wouldn't have found themselves locked outside of their home.
