A weighty issue

That's why I can't do either of those diets. With my diet most meats and proteins are not allowed (no red meat, no nuts or seeds, no organ meat, nothing fatty, etc). I tried to do atkins once, and there was nothing I could and would eat.

Maybe if you planned it. You know you're going to need a tonic on Wednesday - so plan for it. Instead of ordering pizza in, get a frozen meal or a healthier pizza from the grocery store and plan on having it, etc. It'll still be a splurge, but a better one than order in.

Frankly with the propensity we have to overeat in establishments, M especially, I'd be better of baking a cake or something. Better mine than theirs. I don't have BHT and corn syrup in my cabinet.

I wasn't suggesting going out.

See, I allow myself one 'lazy day' a week. For me it's normally Tuesday, but that's besides the point. I know that I get one lazy day a week so I buy, for instance, a family sized frozen lasagna or a frozen large pizza or something similar. Marie Callander makes some awesome frozen meals. They're not as good for you as homemade, but they're better than ordered in pizza.

Oh, no I got what you said and it's a good idea. I could get Trader Joe's something or other. Tonight while M's out I'm big-batch cooking some stuff though, maybe this will keep us in check this week.

Good luck.

Am I the only weirdo who thinks skin on chicken is horrible and disgusting?

Am I the only weirdo who thinks skin on chicken is horrible and disgusting?

depends.

Fried=nummy
Grilled/roasted=yucky

but I have to be careful with all chicken that I don't make myself. I'm allergic to pepricka and that's a favorite poltry seasoning I've come to learn.

On thighs that have been roasted carefully and for a while so that the skin is in no way fatty, all fat has melted out leaving a crisp layer with paprika on it is my favorite.

Or S/P and rosemary if you're allergic or something.

It would appear so, although I'm only really interested in it if it's fried. Same goes for most things really, I can't stand jacket (/baked) potatoes with the skin still on so I end up digging out the potato and leaving the skins.

Yes. The skin is the best part! Especially when its fatty. I used to fight with my mother over who got the skin whenever she made chicken. She says that she used to have the exact same argument with her brother when they were kids.

Erk! The skin is the best part, just like with chicken! Cut the baked potato in half lengthwise. Season with butter, s/p, chives, sour cream, bacon bits, broccoli florets, whatever floats your boat. Carefully eat the inside with all its little goodies, then salt the skin and scarf that sucker down. It's sooooo good!

We had a rule at my house when I was a kid. You could only have the skin of the pieces you ate. Then we used to fight over who got the pieces with the most skin in comparison to total amount of meat.

Saw on an episode of The Doctors today about the AD 36 virus. It's a virus that's linked to obesity. They gave the virus to chickens and it made them overweight. It's found it 30% of obese people, and only found in 5% on non obese. Interesting.

Human adenovirus 36 (HAdV-36) or AD-36 is one of 52 types of adenoviruses known to infect humans. AD-36 was first isolated in 1978 from the feces of a girl suffering from diabetes and enteritis,[1] and has long been recognized as a cause of respiratory and eye infections in humans.[2] It was first shown to be associated with obesity in chickens by Dr. Nikhil Dhurandhar.[3][4]

There has been a positive correlation between body fat and the presence of AD-36 antibodies in the blood [5]. Previous research showed that chicken or mice injected with similar types of viruses show a statistically significant weight gain.[3]

To date, AD-36 is the only human adenovirus that has been linked with human obesity, present in 30% of obese humans and 11% of nonobese humans.[6] In addition, a study of obese Americans indicates that about 30% of the obese individuals and only 5% of non-obese individuals have antibodies to Ad-36.[7] AD-36 also causes obesity in chickens, mice, rats, and monkeys.[6]

AD-36 infection can induce cellular differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and stem cells derived from human adipose tissue.

Fascinating concept. The question is what can be done about it? How can the spread be arrested?

Well it spreads by contact. It's actually mixed in with the virus that causes colds. I don't think they've done enough research on it yet. You gotta think though, we still don't have a cure for the common cold.

Depressing thought.

I lilke jacket potato skins so much I eat other people's.

Are these what I'm thinking they are? *giggles* Potato skins? Potato halves that are topped with cheese bacon and sour cream?

Jounar took me to one restaraunt while I was there that was their version of cajin. I saw potato skins on the menue and as my love for them over whelmed me he ordered them for me. But they weren't what I had invisioned.

Here there really is not a lot of potato left in the skin, maybe 1/4 to 1/2" all around. They are slightly crispy and fairly well loaded. I've also never been served less than 6 at a time (of course the idea is that you share them with the table here).

When these got to the table they looked more like a whole baked potato that had been split in half and a mellon ball worth of potatoe scouped out before being topped. The potato was also seasoned on the outside which I had never experienced before. They were also more mushy, and not crisp at all, and even some of the potato tasted a bit on the under cooked side. They were good for what they were, but not what I had myself pepped up for. Oh and there were only two skins on the plate, but they cost double what an order back here would.

The entire south are a bunch of fat asses according to this. Half of black women are obese and about 80% are overweight. Might be a factor. I see tons of heavy white people. Guy in SC yesterday had a pot back. This kid wasn't much over 20 and he was as round as a ball. I swear he'd kill people if he rolled down a hill. It's sad. I doubt he'll see 40 unless he makes some changes.

You know what. People are fat. We fucking get that. But, do you have to demean people that way?

I think that someone is bored and trying to piss people off. Ignore it, that's what I'm doing.

No - just the dry, boring skins off a plain, un-oiled oven-baked potato. I can't get enough of them! Lots of people eat the potato but leave the skin, which is wher I come in (I also eat other people's camembert and brie rinds :))
