I left DC 10 years ago, and I don't actually miss it much. Oh sure, I get nostalgic for heat that can melt your underwear while you sit in traffic on the beltway, and there's nothing as entertaining as DC with a quarter-inch of snow on the ground, and those are some of the world's most amazing thunderstorms, plus of course you get the scenic Anacostia river and the conveniently located airports... but I don't really miss it.

most of us have a job - Jimmie has two. He's a very busy man, and IF he get around to us, we feel honored.

Maybe it will happen, and maybe it won't. Maybe it will be in August, or maybe it will be next year. Don't stress about it, ok?

Or...if you want to take on the job of planning, arranging, coordinating, contacting everyone...well, great! Or...maybe you could just offer all of that wonderful energy you seem to have to helping him with some of this!

But chill out, ok?

Having a job has nothing to do with it. This community is for adults, so presumably everybody has a job and that's an irrelevant addition. I grant that ChefChip was a bit cynical to phrase it as "I bet this thing isn't happening is it?" but I understand why he thought that might be the case. From the current state of the thread, it does look like nothing is going to happen.

As for taking on the leadership and organization of this event, that probably is a necessity. I proposed a get-together a year or two ago for the local editors at the Open Directory Project and I had to do most of the coordination myself. It did eventually happen, and it was a great time. I've been a member of that community since late 1998, though, and I've only just joined this group - it would feel strange for me to organize a bunch of people I don't know. But as I said, it probably is necessary for somebody to do it.

No problem with the support. If I can get there I will. perky had come to NYC many a times for these things. Heck she is a big reason why we organize them when she knows she is in town. I figured I might as well play in her neck of the woods and meet others I know of from DC.

Basically you all or one has to take the initiative. Set a date and a place. Try not to keep changing it about. True some will not make it but the majority that are interested will do their best to. Also if others from out of time are coming in they need to organize their transportation and such. So make sure it stays on task sort to speak. I know that perky said she was interested in going and from the sounds of it so are others from the bb and chat. Again if I am back in the states by then I will do everything in my power to attend. They really are fun and nice way to meet others we talk to in here.

Okay guys, I'm back, more or less. I've dropped Nell (thank you, you beauty you!!) a line and we'll see what we can put together. cutie_pie has also offered some phone call help, too. I'm real happy with Nell being the HMFIC on this, because, to be honest, my schedule is pretty uncertain for at least a couple more weeks and I don't want to shortchange everyone with a half-assed plan. No one's going to have fun that way.
