You're about to get Eurovision'd.

https://eurovision.tv/story/the-eurovision-song-contest-travels-to-america

The Eurovision Song Contest travels to America!

Europe’s favourite TV show will travel across the ocean to the United States of America! The American Song Contest will take place during the holiday season of 2021.

The American version of the Eurovision Song Contest will, as it is currently conceived, position the artists head to head against other states’ representatives in a series of 5-10 televised Qualifier Competitions, leading to Semi-Finals and the ultimate primetime Grand Final.

Unfortunately it's apparently only within the US. Pity, it's not the complete Eurovision experience unless you get the full pallet of cross cultural weirdness (not to mention political bullshit). Would have been great with Peruvian power ballads and unexpected dubstep from Guatemala.

Haven't we already had about a dozen incarnations of the singing talent show?

We really need another one?

I have two words for y'all:

Gong Show

Will Territories be included?

I want to see the Little Saint James performance.

Eurovision would be pretty boring, if not for all that diversity in singers' looks.

The premise of an American European lookalike would be boring, but knowing Americans - they will deviate from the script and introduce some sassiness.

American idol was pretty entertaining Because of how they filmed all the idiots who thought they can sing, but did anything but.:D Please import Simon Cowell and it will be a slam dunk.

That's why it should be all of the Americas. Chilean boy bands, Canadian opera, Cuban rap.

I was referring to Riverdance in mine, didn't see colddiesel's post but I guess he is too.

That was So. Cool.
My other fav. Irish one was this. Similar spirit:
Buck Fizz - Ireland 1981 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pACePi441ds

The members of ABBA point and laugh at the old man above.

"My My! At "Waterloo", colddiesel he mis-remembered..."

:rolleyes::)
But speaking of:

Oh, Toto Cutogno...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b5whZydVZc
I listened far more to him over the years, than my sister did to ABBA.

Eurovision used to propell good singers back in the day. Celine Dion, Ricky e poveri to say the least.
How come they all suck nowadays>

lol I didn't mean it in that way.

Of course one is high-end/top world class, the other one a bit kitschy entertainment.
But what they have in common is that they make you feel alive.

I hate how most contestants over the last decade tried to imitate the Sweedish/Norwegian/Celine Dion depressing trend, and lost all their originality.

I arrived in Germany for my 2-plus years of Army duty about the same time Waterloo won the Eurovision prize for ABBA.
I have no clue who has won another Eurovision contest.

Not watched it for years. I liked it as a kid though. It's dreadful and naff now.

me too.
yup.
I only watch it occasionally out of narcissism, to see if anyone from my side of Europe looks good.

South America, in particular.
It's the new "it" in music.

If you limit America-Evision to Central or North America, you end up with the same fiasco that Eurovision turned into: everybody imitating Swedish singers, and sounding 2nd class to them.
As for Canada and US: Rap or blues were cool & new too 20 years ago, but we need something new.

The new zumba-raegatone (Sebastián Yatra, maluma, swalla etc.) trend that originated from S America is so original and cool!
I suspect there are similar other young trends that I don't know about.

speaking of Riverdale:

I found Scottish and Irish men to be some of the uggliest mofo's in the Western world
Hi, Sean :D
L.0.L.
(Irish men make up for it because of their feisty spirit & sense of humor, tho)

but Irish girls are mesmeriszng.
The daintiest&most beautiful&interesting&exotic features.

They probably point with their walking sticks - they have all been drawing the old age pension for years. :)

Interesting tidbit about ABBA that was on the radio - don't know if it's true but...

Apparently they turned down 2 billion if they'd do a tour.

For me, the most attractive Westerners:
women: Irish, Swedish
men: Swedish, German.

Many British men and women act as if they're the sexiest gift to mankind
- yes, the accent IS sexy
but otherwise, I find them to be so fuckin' bland.

Did same a year or two after that and people were still talking about ABBA.

Unlikely, they are aged between 70 and 76. Agnetha has mental health problems, and cannot travel, and two of the others have known physical issues. I can understand a promoter getting excited at the prospect though.
