Oatmeal raisin. Delicious joy or nugget of hell? Poll to follow.

Oatmeal rasin are one of my favorites. So are peanutbutter. Cant say I've had a bad cookie though.

Also pecan pie trumps all!

Consider pie a write-in option.

Raisins are just dead grapes and the only good dead grape is wine.

I have an amusing story. When we were kids, my mom would make cookies out of Wheaties. They were some kind of junior league recipe or something. This was back in the early days of celeb athletes and kids would actually beg their parents to take them to the store to see which athlete was the celeb du jour on the Wheaties box. I remember the recipe was chewy and buttery and the wheaties melted down to this somewhat grainy, chewy texture. I have found a few recipes and tried to mimick them, but they are never sweet or chewy enough. I sometimes wonder if Wheaties changed its formula and that's why the cookies don't taste the same. My mom has searched for that recipe for us for years, but can't find it. Sometimes at family gatherings we have entire conversations about those cookies.

Did they have Karo syrup? I remember something like that but with Corn Flakes.

Oh, hell yes, they had karo syrup. I wonder if corn flakes were the Midwestern variant of that cookie?

Oh wow....I vaguely remember Wheaties changing their formula in the late 1980s maybe? They didn't put as much malt spray on them and said they were now "lighter and crispier" or something?

my clit reminds me of a raisin.

on raisins - i love it when the get all hot and plump back up. then you bite into them with a juicy little squirt. cookies. i really want a cookie now. if i shower fast and throw on my clothes, i may just have the time to grab one before the meeting. woot!

BTW, this is definitely the sort of thread that distinguishes us from, say, the Playground.

We certainly don't shy away from debatin' the important issues of the day.

i like an oatmeal raisin cookie as much as the next guy.

(assuming the next guy also feels generally positive towards oatmeal raisin cookies)

For the Wheaties cookies.

I am going to have to go back and look at what my sisters and I reconstructed with my mom, I can't remember if it was white or brown sugar, but I know dark karo was a component. These cookies did not have oatmeal, chocolate chips, coconut, nuts or raisins. I have seen recipes with all those, but my mom's version were really straightforward Wheaties, no add-ins.

Wow, I should research that. I remember a strong malty flavor as a kid, come to think of it. I wonder if that ingredient tweak altered the texture? Must read up on that.

You just gave me an idea. Rum soaked raisins for my next batch of oatmeal. What say you?
