That's what the people who knew him said Dr. David Knightly had- a unique power to heal. David realized this power from an early age, years before getting his bachelors or PhD in psychology, and well before becoming a certified hypnotist- he had an ability some saw as almost supernatural- the kind of gentle but commanding presence that calmed and swayed people. Just one look into his eyes, and his hypnotherapy patients said they never felt quite the same. Eventually, he grew tired of the strict framework of formal psychiatric practice, and formed his own organization, A New Dawn, which promised to give a new lease on life. The fact that people called it a 'cult' only convinced him they were jealous and afraid of his ability. Cults, he told himself, were filled with people who believed in UFOs. He was only trying to improve lives.
The thing is, David discovered that freeing himself from the confines of medical practice meant he was free to experiment with the limits of his influence over others. Perhaps some part of him tried to dissuade him, but he had convinced himself that if he was helping improve peoples' lives, there was certainly nothing wrong with him receiving an equal benefit, in addition to the hefty sum most were willing to pay. The 'benefit' he received depended on the follower... and as the young woman who entered his office took a seat on his couch, he had one or two ideas of the 'benefits' he could get from her...
"Hello," he smiled, locking his relaxed eyes with hers as his mind returned to the present, "What brings you to me today?"
