The Kingdom of Kalynd is nearing a celebration of two monumental events; the 40th year of the king's reign, and the 25th birthday of his son, the prince. During his years ont he throne, the king has kept peace in his land and believes that everyone in his kingdom to be as happy as he.

There are some, however, that do not appreciate the King's reign, wanting instead to seize power for themselves. They feel the king's age has left him too senile to handle the throne, creating treaties and peace alliances with others that would lead to the destruction of their own land. These rebels would do anything to overthrow the king.

Plans for a masquerade ball for this celebration are underway, costumes and masks already being seen in the hands of Kalynd's risher population. The king has even required his guards to take up costumes, not wanting anything to ruin the party he has planned for he and his son. Unknown to the king, an invitation to his ball has fallen into the hands of the rebel group. With the invite, the rebellion plans to send two of their own to the party; their leader and a hired mercenary to kidnap the prince and force the king to listen to their demands.

Adalynn Jinae

Name: Adalynn Jinae
Age: 26
Status: Hired Mercenary
Appearance: See attached

Bio: Adalynn was raised in the midst of war, finding herself surrounded by death daily. She seemed to find no horror in staring into the eyes of a corpse, feeling perfectly at home taking up swords and trinkets from the dead around her. The only time the realization came to her was when someone she loved was harmed by the war...
With her age came far more densensitization, as well as the realization that she could convince others to do as she wanted with a little feminine charm. Although she can be sweet and charming, its most often just an act...

Name: Prince Desidiosus (Des for short.)
Age: 25
Status: Prince of Kalynd
Appearance: Click.
Des spent his entire life behind the castle walls, blind to how the rest of Kalynd lives. He was assigned the best tutors in the land to teach him ediquette and history, as well as mathematics, geography, and literature, but he held no interest in them and often hid from his classes. Eventually they gave up, leaving him to do as he pleased. Even at the age of 25, he doesn't know anything about the kingdom he is soon to inherit, nor does he expect in the slightest any plan to kidnap him.

((Seems its just us for this one, JustaShell. We can do it in here, then... no sense starting a new thread for 2 people.))

Adalynn stared at the castle walls as the carriage approached, the sound of the horse's hooves echoing loudly as she looked at the man across from her, the commander of the Rebellion. She had been so maticuluous at picking out her clothing, being sure that she would blend in well enough with the wealthy guests of the king's court and yet still be able to run easily. The Commander, however... a black mask was wrapped about his eyes, a gruff furious expression on his face, and his clothing still the same tattered outfit he had been wearing the other day.

How wonderful.

"I suppose I'll be doing most of the speaking," She said flatly, her eyes not leaving the gates as they came into view.

"Why you think that?," Came the grunted reply, the commander looking up at her.

Adalynn finally looked over at him, a frown on her face as she gave him a once over. "If you think it would be better for you to handle it...," She started, trailing off with a shrug. "Though I doubt we'll be making it past the front gates with your wonderful speaking skills."

"Listen, bitch," He growled, a dagger coming from his coat and pointing at her throat. "You may think you're so high and mighty... but whose the one working for money on this job, hmm? At least I'm here for a reasonable mission. Your job is to get the prince."

Reasonable? Adalynn didn't believe that in the least. Still, he had a point. She was being paid for her services with his whole mission... but that also left her the opportunity to bow out at any time. If things became too messy in the castle, he was on his own. The carriage pulled up into the gates, the driver presenting the invitation as the carriage door opened. Adalynn slipped her mask on, taking the guard's offered hand as she exited. "Why thank you sir," She said softly, not even waiting for the commander before heading into the castle.

Desidiosus stepped down the stairs into the ballroom, ignoring the two servants that walked exactly five steps behind him. No more, no less, otherwise they would be beheaded by order of the king. Well, that was the threat anyway. The prince usually talked him out of it. He adjusted his mask a bit and took his seat next to his father, the king.
The same two servants tentatively approached, asking if he wanted anything. Des shook his head and made a little waving gesture with his hand. "Just go and do what you like. Quit following me." he said, leaning his head on his knuckles. This entire masquerade ball was so boring. He'd much rather be up in his chambers reading.
"But sire, there have been rumors of a plan to kidnap--" one of the servants began to protest, but was cut off by a glare from Des.
"There are rumors of that every time I leave my room. I'm not afraid of that anymore. Now go."
The servants bowed nervously and walked away, going to aid with some other part of the ball while Des got up and entered the mass of people, looking for someone to dance with. The fun thing about these masks was that very few could tell it was actually the prince and not one of the more wealthy guests.

"You want me to stay with you?," The commander grumbled out, coming up behind her.

Adalynn shot him a glare. "I'd rather you didn't. I'm a big girl, I'm fairly certain I can handle myself. Unless this is your way of asking me for protection? Is that it?" She smiled behind the mask as he grumbled something else, walking away. She knew that would make him leave off her back.

Walking through the crowd, she gave courteous nods and bows to those in the fancier costumes, working her way across the room to the king's table. "Good evening to you, Your Majesty." She gave another bow to the King, glancing up long enough to see the prince's chair to be empty. Wonderful... already out on the floor, mingling among the people. But how to find him? These damn masks...

She started back into the guest throng, looking around for the commander. He had taken up a spot at the refreshment table, downing glass after glass of wine. She made a note to take his knife from him when she had the chance. The last thing she needed was for him to lose track of the plans and attack someone before she had a chance to-

Her thoughts were cut short as she ran into the shoulder of a man, taking a surprised step back. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you..."

Des bumped against someone and looked up from his thoughts, frowning. "What is it no--" He realized that it wasn't one of the servants, but a woman--an attractive one at that. He adjusted his mask and gave a little bow. "A thousand apologies. I wasn't looking where I was going."
He took her hand and brushed a kiss across her knuckles like he was taught as a boy. "Prince Desidiosus, at your service."

"Quite alright...." Adalynn's words trailed off a bit as he kissed her hand, her eyes widening behind the mask as he introduced himself. This made things far easier for her. With a smile, she gave a bow to him. "Oh, please, your grace. It was entirely my fault. I'm so sorry..." She paused, glancing behind him. "If... you do not feel I'm imposing, perhaps we could have a dance? I'd be most honored to give a birthday dance with you, your highness."

With another smile, she continued to keep her hand on his. "My name is Adalynn. I've been looking forward to meeting you, Prince Desidiosus." Her other hand crept behind her back as she looked at him, pulling a few coins from inside her jacket sleeve and dropping them onto the floor, the soft noise a signal to the commander that she had found the Prince.

Des heard a faint clinking sound, like metal hitting the floor, but with all the voices and music, he couldn't tell what it was. Dismissing it with a slight shake of his head, he smiled back at Adalynn. "Don't give it another thought, and you can call me Des if you'd like. I know Prince Desidiosus is quite a mouth full."
He shrugged and brushed a lock of hair out of his face. "And you're not imposing at all. I'd be honored to have a dance with you."
Still holding on to her hand, he guided her to the dance floor and gave a bow as the current song ended and a new one began. Des had never been the best dancer, but he knew enough to get him by the balls his father threw.

"Prince Des." Adalynn gave a nod, following him out onto the floor and glancing around as he bowed to her, giving a slight curtsey herself to him. The commander was staring at her, a dribble of fluid running down his chin. Liquor, no doubt. What a mess he was. It made her almost sick to think that she was working for such a pig of a man...

But then the music started, leaving Adalynn wrapped into the Prince's guiding hands about the floor. She smiled at him, giving a soft laugh for good measure. As the music lulled slightly, she pushed her mask up a bit more, leaning to the prince and gently placing a kiss upon his lips. "A gift for you, my Prince... from a girl who can afford nothing more." She paused, cocking her head slightly. "Perhaps.. there is something else I could give you, my Prince... If you were to come with me from these prying eyes..."

Something ticked in the back of his head. Wanting to be out of sight from other people. Something about that seemed a little strange to him. But she seemed nice enough and he was quite interested in what more she could give. He smiled and gestured toward the grand staircase. "We could retire to my chambers." he offered, looking around. It seemed no-one was watching him and the king was busy chatting with ambassadors and the like, leaving him free to go where he pleased.
