Last week the NM state legislature passed a group of gun control bills (yet to be acted on by the senate). Among them was a 'universal background check' bill funded by Bloomberg, and a 'red flag' bill. (They also passed a host of tax increases that will primarily effect low wage earners and the fixed income folks, but that's for another thread.)

The reaction was swift and predictable. 29 out of 33 counties passed 2nd amendment sanctuary resolutions, backed by the county sheriffs, that basically state that not one penny of taxpayer monies or one minute of the deputies time will be spent trying to enforce said laws. A 30th sheriff has come out in support but will 'leave it to the commissioners' to decide thus trying to make everyone happy by playing Pontius Pilate.

The new governor states that if the senate passes said bills she's going to sign them into law and 'make those sheriffs' enforce them. Really? How is that going to work governor?

The laws as passed are unenforceable but by golly those legislators are going to feel good about it...................until the next election.

*chuckle*

What army does the Chief Justice command?

How long before the Governor faces reelection.

It's always easier to be bold and squirrelly when an election is further out than you think your constituents' attention span is.

;) ;)

This is one of my arguments against term limits.

Look at the shit President Obama pulled once he know that he was dead to the election cycle. I think that knowing that they have an expiration date emboldens the petty politicians to act in a tyrannical fashion; after all, they will never have to answer for the unintended consequences of 'doin' right having no end...'

The democrats, which are always overly represented in the metro areas, came in absolutely drunk on power. they formed a circular firing squad and commenced firing.

The state had a $1 billion tax surplus for 2018 with an even bigger surplus looming for 2019, but they raised taxes on everything. Not very smart these dems.

It's old ground now: judge them not on results (you fucking bigot), but rather on their good intentions...

:(

I was considering NM as a retirement possibility at one time.

It was scratched off my list for various reasons, but the current political horizon would have caused me to do it even if the other reasons hadn't been there.

Arizona and New Mexico are being invaded by failed liberals who turned major parts of California into shit holes and by Third World types who left their home countries because of a lack of social safety nets, hoping to find such safety nets in the United States. It's the perfect scenario for the emergence of Democrat socialists with totalitarian ideas for the maintenance of their new found constituency.

Richardson turned NM around fiscally. I would have voted for him for President because he has his head on straight when it comes to government. Or, at least I thought so at the time and haven't changed my opinion.

The current crop of socialists are destroying the State again. I think they get away with it because they make life so difficult for the people that there's no time left to actually think about what's going on. Everyone's exhausted from "just getting by".

Illinois will be next. First abortion was sewed up. After that will be more tax increases and pot legalization (consumption tax). Maybe they can convince Amazon to come and not pay taxes there. :)

It's like the onset of a nagging medical problem that before you know it has turned into an irreversible life threatening disease.

Actually he didn't. That was Gary Johnson. Richardson put the state back in the shitter again. Martinez pulled it out, and now Lujan seems hell bent for leather to put it back in the shitter. I'm pretty certain she's gong to be a one termer.

That is certainly true, especially for AZ. I watched the same thing occur in CO. and to a lesser extent in FL. (FL's invasion is from the NE.)

It has always baffled me that people that are trying to escape the over-taxation and over-regulation of where they're at move to a state/local that isn't burdened with that bullshit and then begin to vote for the same crap they were leaving behind. It's like, "Didin't you learn anything?"
