Does anyone know why a story of mine would one day have 15 votes and then the next day only have 13?

Why are votes being deleted?

On a somewhat irregular basis Laural will go through the votes cast and remove YOUR votes, votes coming from duplicate IP Addys and Troll votes.

Welcum to the club.

I don't vote on my own stories, there were no troll votes from what I could see. I don't know about duplicate I.Ps though.

This is an age old question, the complete answer to which is only know to Laural and Manu....

Sweeps are made and votes can disappear, some good ones and some bad ones....

As for you voting on your own stories, its allowed I guess and some do it and some don't....

Sometimes a reader will open a story, read and then vote.... they might come back later to finish reading and vote again... two votes one IP..... One guy told me once that he voted for each page.... Hmmmm, that's three pages and three votes as an example.....

And if ya ain't been found by the trolls yet, well you are in for a treat..... There are several threads for bitching when it happens... You'll notice i said when not if....

Welcome to the wonderful world of a writer on Lit....

True Tx... On one of my Halloween stories I had five "5" votes disappear on the last day of the contest. That's even more irritating than the Troll's "1" votes. :(

I know what you mean Jenny. I just lost two five votes on one story but the "1" vote on another story is still there.

Here's what we do Jenny. We form an alliance. Whenever you get a troll vote, let me know and I'll vote a five to offset it; same vice versa...lol

That doesn't work. Laural will sweep all the votes from duplicate IP Addys and you can expect quite a few Troll votes.

The best defense is to not give a shit. Write for YOU. If someone cares enough to write out an actual comment, take it to heart (if it is worthy), but never the random votes........Carney

Yea tho I walk through the valley of Trolls,
I shall fear no evil,
For Laural art with me...

I also find it disheartening when you have a story that's just on the verge of going into the "H" zone, but not quite. My story is stagnant at a 4.48. I'm happy with the score, but most of the votes were cast before the huge rewrite I did, and I believe the story is much better since then. Plus it would be nice to have that nice little "H" next to it. :D Ah well, better luck next time right?

As for the disappearing votes, the same thing happened to me and I was just as confused as you were. Keeps it honest though. :)

Grab the pitchforks and light the torches, it's troll hunting time!

Just to clarify the "disappearing votes" problem.

According to the last direct statement I've seen from Laurel, the periodic sweeps remove "Duplicate and fraudulent votes" -- it has been several years since that direct statement, and Laurel has consistently refused to provide any information on how they identify or define "Duplicate and Fraudulent."

I do know that it is not simply "duplicate IPs" because there are numerous cases where two or more users access Literotica from the same computer/IP and even more who access the web via ISPs that assign dynamic IPs.

I do also know that the definition of "Duplicate and Fraudulent" is more stringgent for contest entries than it is for normal submissions -- starting with ignoring votes from people who aren't logged in when they vote.
