A Story, but not by me-post?

A reader sent a feedback and has what sounds like several hundred stories he's written but for whatever reasons doesn't want them on the site under his screen name, assuming he gets one. Apparently afraid someone would recognize him although I can't imagine how they would. He asked me post them and I did edit one(which is funny because I can't even do a good job editing my own stuff). Just some spelling changes, an age change of a character, put it into paragraphs. Not a bad story although there is one word he uses frequently that I wouldn't use.

I asked to put his "name" in an author's note attributing the story to him and he said just use a "friend" and nothing more.

The site requires a story to be the original work of the author. If I give the credit, except for some minor changes, to another person, is it okay to post it? It creates one other problem for me. I don't read many erotic stories for personal reasons, but I keep wondering, what if he just copied it from somewhere, like another site. I'm making the assumption he didn't but I don't want to get kicked off the site, but I'm also hoping if the response is good maybe he'll start submitted these on his own. What does one(me) do:confused:

just tell him to post to another site like nifty or asstr if he's got problems with posting on the site.

It's not good karma to take credit for his stuff...

Not sure what those are but I wasn't going to take credit for it-I was going to make it clear it wasn't mine except for some minor changes. Are those sites where you post anonymously?

Why not set up a user name like "friendofbearlee", and post the stories in that name?

Could I guess, but it's still not my original work.

No, but people would then know that it's your friend's stories, not yours.

Or, as in all cases when you're not sure about what to do: Ask Laurel.

Dear BL,
I don't see any reason for you not to publish them under your name. Of course, I don't see why your friend doesn't post them himself under whatever name. You might hope that he hasn't stolen them from someone and you would have a fuss if that someone saw them under your name.
Hedgingly,
MG
Ps. Seems like your friend is creating a problem where none exists.

If he's signed up to Literotica under the screen name Mr William Hutchinson, Swan Cottage, Little Bressingham, Surrey he might have a cause to worry. Tell him to log out, create a new account (he'll need a different e-mail address), and post under that. Hint delicately that he shouldn't choose a pseudonym like Illiamway Utchinsonhay, nor put 'Swan Cottage, &c.' in the Location field.

He's not really my friend, but you know-that's what I'll do-ask Laurel. She always loves hearing from me :D Well, maybe not always but she can decide. I like the idea of doing it your suggested way though. Hell, it'll probably be the only one he sends me after this last one. I deleted the first one he sent. Now I have to see what these nifty and asstr things are all about.

Dear RS,
That's brilliant. I've often thought of writing a short story in pig latin. Wonder how it would be received.

Yes. Obvious once someone says it, surely? Sorry, nothing new to add, just thought that this was worth emphasizing.

If you really feel that the stories should be posted, and that the person is to shy to do this temselves... then I agree with Svenskaflicka.

I would say that you should place a very broad note in the profile, that shows that you are not the actual author, just their agent in place.

Whilst this is true, I don't quite understand why someone would be too shy to set up an anonymous account with distant people.

You could even set up email to Hotmail or some such other anonymous email provider. Hell, they could even pose as someone being an agent of themselves, that way no-one could possibly think it was them. The end result would be the same, but you'd be spared the work and the resposibility, and none of Lit's rules would be being broken.

If after receiving the info provided by RS they still want you to do it for them, it just sounds as if they can't be bothered. In which case, fuck 'em.

nifty.org

not sure what the exact addy for asstr is (alt sex stories)

I think that several people have brought up a really good point...you have no way of knowing if this "friend" actually wrote the stories, or has plagarized them. If it came back at you, it would not be fun, to say the very least.

Beyond that, to reinforce what others have also noted...tell him to get a second account for lit under which he ONLY posts stories. If he needs an email addy, have him get a lit one.

Well, I checked with Laurel and she said because of copyright laws, etc. not to do it. I sent the story back to him(?) and told him to get a new email address and screen name and do it. Guess he's not going to. Plus the other problem brought up by DN. I've already seen one of my stories on another site. What the heck is this nifty and asstr stuff?

Never, I assume go to nifty.com. and asstr.com. Just sites?!
