So I’m sure this idea has been done but I think it would be fun.

Ordinary guy or gal has an ordinary life, but when they fall asleep they don’t have regular dreams, they wake up in another life where things are more exciting, fantastic, and of course, erotic.

So for example, overworked nurse wakes up in a fantasy setting where she is a high priestess being asked to choose from a number of gorgeous people to be her consort.

Or for more mundane: single, lonely guy wakes up in bed with two women as part of a polycule.

I think what would make it interesting is that it takes them a few “dreams” to understand this is real, so they take actions which come back to bite them down the road or at the very least cause embarrassment. For example, in the nurse example, she spurns and whips one guy cause she thinks it’s a dream and he reminds her of her boss: he becomes antagonistic towards her later on. Or guy in the polycule decides to just go nude or invite more people to join them, which ruffles his wives.

The big issue I do see is finding a reason for them to keep up the double lives (why not just figure a way to stay asleep for as long as possible, or if they never really sleep, they might want to end one life so they can experience sleep once in a while).

Maybe the world’s have an impact on the other? Like succeeding in one life causes success in the other. But failing to take care of yourself in one life negatively impacts your other life.

"Walter Mitty" kind of explored that theme, but I think it was more about daydreaming than dreaming.

The Inner Light (Star Trek: The Next Generation) - Wikipedia

In this episode, Captain Jean-Luc Picard ( Patrick Stewart) is struck unconscious by an energy beam from an alien probe. While minutes pass for the rest of the crew, the probe makes Picard experience 40 years of lifetime as Kamin, a humanoid scientist whose planet is threatened by the nova of its sun.

And of course the whole season of Dallas where Pam muses 'It was all a dream?'

It could also be more of a science fiction/fantasy concept in which people in fact live two lives - one in what we consider the 'waking' world and another which we consider our 'dreamworld' - how much difference between them could be a variable reflecting the imagination of the individual for example. Could you somehow flip the two and make your 'dreamworld' your 'real' world upon which you concentrate while relegating your other existence to the status of 'dreamworld' or even 'nightmare' world if it's that bad!

The last paragraph of your post made me think of Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Lathe of Heaven", which I strongly recommend. The impact of the dream world on the waking world would definitely be an interesting thing to explore from a romantic/erotic standpoint.

I've given this one quite a bit of thought.

A woman works alongside this man for ten years and is deeply in love with him. But due to self confidence issues and shyness she never tells him. Until one day she passes suddenly. With this unresolved, her spirit lingers and she follows this man.

She sees that the man mourns her. That he loved her also. Then one day his doctor gives him the long face. "John, it's inoperable."

The man is terrified of what may or may not lie on the other side of the veil. Death affects us all very differently. Wanting to comfort him she visits him in his dreams. He has a series of dreams for many months where she shows him what's coming and that she'll be there with him. They'll be together.

When his time comes he's ready. And she's waiting for him.

Yeah, it's a total soul crushing downer, but it could be a great romantic erotica. The dream sequences can be a hot as you want.
