"What a madhouse that place was."
Austin Meadows looked out the front passenger window of the red 2014 Jeep Patriot as LAX slowly disappeared from view.
"Yeah, a stupid number of people come in through there every day. It's even worse downtown," Tyler Matthews replied from the driver's seat, looking over the steering wheel as he drove toward their spring break destination, a house he and his friends rented on Venice Beach. "It's a pain in the ass to drive through."
In the backseat, Jake Taylor was looking down at his phone, texting his girlfriend and letting her know that he had arrived safely.
"You alive back there, Taylor?" Tyler asked, looking up into the rearview mirror to try and see what his friend was up to.
"Yeah, just texting Shayla," Jake replied, causing Austin to roll his eyes.
"Dude, you've been texting her since we got in the car to go to the airport," Austin said. "I hope you're not going to be talking to her all this week, or else you're just wasting your time and money."
Tyler laughed. "Yeah...and once you see the girls here, you'll forget all about her. She'll probably lose her shit wondering what you're doing while you're knee-deep in pussy."
The three friends laughed as they continued to make the short ride from LAX to their house. They had grown up in Indiana and known each other since middle school, and quickly became friends through sports, primarily football. After graduation, all three decided to stay close to home and attend Indiana State. But when Tyler's dad accepted a lucrative job offer in California, Tyler decided to follow his family out West and transferred to USC after his freshman year.
Although they had kept close through texting, phone calls and Skype talks, they had not been able to get together in person...until now.
They reached their street a short time later, and checked out the nice houses that were lined along the way. Finally, the Patriot pulled into the driveway and all three guys looked up at the house.
"Well, here it is," Tyler said.
"Looks good to me," Austin said as he quickly got out of the car. The southern California weather felt amazing, especially when comparing it to what it was like back home, where it was still chilly. As he moved to grab his bag from the trunk, he looked over to the neighboring house, where two girls were also grabbing their belongings from their car.
"That also looks good to me," he snickered before getting the attention of his friends. "Looks like we got some pretty good neighbors," he said. Tyler and Jake made a point to steal quick glances at the girls before grabbing their things and heading toward the door leading into the house from the garage.
