The literal translation of "Fuck me!" into Spanish is "Jódame!". Or at least this is what comes out those nice auto-translate web sites. If it's something else, please let me know.

Is it only used in the person to person sense as in "Fuck me right now!", or can it also be used as an exclamation in the same way as the English. For example:

"Fuck me! That's some heavy shit!"

Can I use the Spanish equivalent here, or would it seem weird? What's the most natural sounding equivalent (for a Mexican character)?

Thanks

are we talking Spain? Or Mexico?

My Mexican friends say "Chinga tu madre"-- fuck your mother. In fact, they say "Chinga" everything.

Mexico.

Which, as a pasty-faced Englishmen who's only ever visited Tijuana, kind of completely violates the whole 'write what you know' thing, but what the hell. The character is what he is.

I've worked in a few of the classic insults for flavour, but this was the one I wasn't sure about.

It's the character's thought after seeing a precious stone as big as his fist.

The english thought would be:

Fuck me! Now that was some rock.

I replaced Fuck me! with Jódame! to continue the Spanish/Mexican flavour, but I'm not totally sure if this is correct. (i.e. would it make a natural Spanish speaker burst out laughing in the same way we laugh at most Japanese attempts at 'Engrish') :)

Heck, maybe I should leave it there for that reason :D.

They would absolutely say; "Chinga tu madre, the size of that stone!"

"Fuck your mother" is the ultimate expression of astonishment, shock, and surprise, in Mexican Spanish. "Fuck me" is pretty rare in American English-- we don't go giving out invites to get ourselves fucked, we'd rather load it on your mother by proxy.

Ah thanks. I'll have to remember that in future. I'm forever getting tripped up by differences between UK and US slang. Britain and America, divided by a common language :D.

 Maybe where you're from, but it's common around here, and has been for as long as I can remember. Fuck me. Fuck me runnin'. Fuck me raw. Common from pop culture things like Adam Sandlar's comedy albums as well.

The phrase is losing popularity on the "pissed off" side to "balls" and "ass", but the "surprised" side still seems to be holding strong herebouts.

I don’t know if “chinga tu madre” works as an interjection (as opposed to an insult.) I think for expressing shock/surprise you need something like “puta madre!” or “hijo de puta!”
