Okay, so I recently went bra shopping and I found some good stuff, but everything came with underwire in it. Well, I bought what I liked, and I love them, except they pain of them digging into my ribs after about four hours is too much.

I have taken out the underwire on one of my bras and it seems to not give the same support, but it is far more comfortable and I liked it, but my boobes felt less secure in it. Like they bra was going to work it's way up over my boobs and they would pop out. Whether they would or not is irrelivent, the feeling is odd.

Have any of you noticed that underwire is better for support or what? Do you prefer one type over the other? Why?

I am contemplating taking the wire out of all of them, but I am worried with some of the nicer ones that they'll loose their form and shape. Does anyone think I should not do it.

I am going to have to run out for a while, but I'll be back later and see if any of the ladies have any input.

I cant stand to not have underwire. Otherwise I feel like there is no support. The rib digging thing is just our curse to deal with. I wish I could have small boobies!

:D

I remove the wire from most of mine, and yes,the shape does go out of them.

However,it feels alot better and to me,thats a good thing.

But I must mention that I dont have massive boobies though, but still...I dont like the underwire.

being well endowed myself, I wear almost nothing but underwire. One just has to be careful about fit and brand to get one that is not uncomfortable. I also have to have wide straps, to save my shoulders that furrowing. ~frown~

I cant stand the underwire I'm a 38d cant find any good ones at target, cant afford the pretty ones at the department stores, and they all seem to be the same color beige, white or black, I'm 21 and feel like i am getting old lady bras that really sucks. the underwire hurts but i tried taking the wire out but my boobs fall out.

Praise the women who give their backs, and ribs in this case, to please my eyes.

Hi Star!
I don't think removing the underwire is a good idea, it will effect the appearance and wear of the bra. Some underwires are more padded than others, you just have to shop a bit...most finer stores will offer "fittings". Unfortuately, the nicer uderwires do cost more, as if bras for larger women don't already cost a small fortune.
The good news is that the more you wear them, you do get used to them, and they do make the breasts look nicer.

Starfish I have the same problem, but I don't have massive boobs. I usually leave the under wire in, and deal with it. If you find something that works, please let me know.:)

I wear nothing but underwire bras. I don't feel supported or get a good shape without them.

Fishie, you shouldn't feel the wires digging into you with a properly fit bra.

The wire shouldn't dig if the bra fits right. Take out the wires and they will loose their shape though.

You're not putting them in the dryer right? That warps the wire and can make it uncomfortable.

I'm not exactly massively boobed out, but I do prefer underwire for the support. Have you tried the brand 'Barely There'? It's available in most department stores and is reasonably priced. I find their stuff to be pretty comfy. Then again, I don't have any experience with anything outside of the C range.

Depending on your bra size, Warners makes some good one that go up to a 44D WITHOUT underwire.

Granted, they're not all lacy and pretty, but for everyday, they're great and give great support. The have bands built into the cups and I swear by them!

Hi Starfish....I may not be very well endowed but I have found difficulties finding the right bra as well. I posted some of my bra thoughts on a thread the other day and some other Litters mentioned some sites that carry nice bras for the bountiful breasted. Check it out....maybe there will be something for you.

I've noticed that very few women seem to be able to find a bra that fits them correctly.

They should have classes for that kind of thing.

They'd probably be quite popular with as big of a problem as it seems to be.

I can't go without an underwire .. or I fall out, too. I only have one bra that pinches like that. I'd go with Ruby's suggestion: get yourself fitted.

... and you'd volunteer to teach, right? ;)

There is a formula....

something like measure around the ribs right below the boobs and that's your number (in inches). Then measure over the nipple line (for some of us this is lower). I believe for each half inch the nipple-line measurement is greater you add a cup size. A half-inch greater starts with AA then an inch goes to A, an inch and a half goes to B, etc. It's been a long time since I've learned it but I think it's right.

I think it's matching our individual contours and shapes that presents the biggest challenge, though. Not to mentions style and preference.

I didn't read the whole thread, so forgive me if I repeat. I only wear underwire bras, otherwise I get no support. I would tell you what size I am, but I don't even know. Last time I went bra shopping I was a 40D but I've got to get something bigger.

However, Starfish, have you tried any of the wireless wire support bras? The "wire" isn't metal, so it's softer and perhaps more comfortable. I'm sorry I don't have the name of it to give you, but look around, ask around, and maybe that'll solve your problem.

Good luck to you!

proper bra fit is the key

measure under your bust, if the underbust measurement number is under 33", add 5"; if it is 33" or over, add 3". If the result is an even number, that's your bra size; if it is an odd number, add 1".

For example, if your underbust measurement is 31", add 5"; your bra size is 36". If your underbust measurement is 34", add 3" to get 37"; this is odd, so round to 38".

Cup Size: Measure around the fullest part of the bust, keeping the tape level without pulling it too tight. The difference between this number and your bra size tells you your cup size:

difference of 0 = AA difference of 1 = A difference of 2 = B difference of 3 = C difference of 4 = D difference of 5 = DD difference of 6 = DDD

this info is from the internet, but i use to work for Victoria's Secret and i think this is the way we were taught to do it..i feel the need to confess that i am not blessed with huge tatas..i just like to help

I have fallen in love with the Barely there Bras. I love the way underwires make me look but some of the are quite a pain. The problem I have is I love the demi cups and they are hard to find in my size 38C

Thank you all sooooooooooo much for this awesome information.

I tried my bras on when I bought them, and they fitted fine. But I am dropping weight really fast, like I put it on  and I am noticing that the padding of fat around my ribs if going away and they are digging in a bit.

I mean, it isn't excruciating, but it is rather un fun. I can't wait for my tits to be small again. Well, they were never really small, but the cantalope tits are killing my back. :D

Thanks again ladies!
