Thank you for a thought provoking and insightful thread - as usual. It lacks the incendiary verbal fireworks to bring out the neocons but it is a good question and deserves an honest answer:
If it weren't for an act of unselfish heroism on the part of a gay member of my company, I would not be here today. This individual personally saved about forty of us who'd gotten trapped in a crossfire and if not for his selfless, irrational, and crazy stunt, not one of those forty would have lived to thank him for what any of us would have gladly done for the others.
We knew he was 'queer' but that was his business, not ours. He was a person I could trust and I know that he trusted me. Nuff said.
