A Question For All Authors

Hi everybody! I'm new to this board, so someone may have asked this question already. Has anybody here SOLD any erotic stories? If so, where is a good place to submit them?

As far as I know, the only Literotica author to actually sell a story is Roger Simian. I believe he has had a couple published in the UK version of Forum.

Hello, Hound.

I know that Kerrie O' Keefe has been published in 'On Their Backs', a women's erotic journal based in, I think, San Francisco. I remember also reading that Dixon Carter Lee had been published in a magazine. I think the editor read his work here on Literotica and approached him about one of his stories.

The details about 'Forum' magazine are towards the end of this strand:

Question- is Forum what was called Penthouse Variations - for liberated lovers? I wrote for them about 7 years and had some 41 letters published, including special issues and "Best of."

I never wrote a long story for them as I thought they were all written by the staff there. I never got paid - except the personal satisfaction of seeing my anonymous stories in print!

That's where I honed my journalistic skills I now use here. I've had several of my stories asked to be posted to other sites, but so far a $25 gift certicate for the top Lesbian story for '99 has been my only pay.

I do get one hell of a lift when I see my stories hit the Top 20 week after week. That will certainly keep a gal writing her little ole heart out! Readers I love you one and all (particularly you wonderful ones who vote for my stories!)

I think Forum in Britain is related to Penthouse Forum Letters in America. Bob Guccioni is the chairman, anyway. They publish a lot of "readers' letters". I don't know whether or not the writers get paid for those but, in the UK at least, they also publish two 3,000 word erotic short stories each issue (it's published every two months). They pay £125 for these (which is probably around $200-250). I don't know whether or not the American equivalent does the same.

Publishing

Yes, it is possible to publish your erotica and get more than submission copies in return! I have been writing and publishing erotica for about ten years now. You will not however, get rich. Even Anne Rice had to get famous in other genres, and then her previously published erotica took off in sales. You will probably want to start by getting a Writer's Market. They even have a CD ROM version with hyperlinks, starting in 1999. It does list publishers and editors looking for short and long pieces. It is an invaluable resource because often, no matter how good the work is, they will not look at it if you do not follow their query specs. It is also helpful to actually obtain copies of the publications you intend to send your work to and make sure that your work fits their format.

If you are looking for an easy break in, Nashville Times, and adult online and hardcopy monthly pays $50.00 for short fiction: http://www.nashvilletimes.com/

LMFAO! Thank you so much! I needed a good laugh this morning. Dick Biggs? I expected a cheesy porno soundtrack to accompany that. Oh, and someone please tell him the movie is From Here to Eternity.

Have a productive week,
Payne

getting published

I have several disk out that I sale for legal adult content they are licensed. Also I had the article featured here last month on a picture says a thousand words are does it. I use a company called web legal.com. If your looking to sale stories send a few to dave for evaluation.

Ummm, I'm not sure if this counts but I have a couple of guys that pay me monthly to write for them. I write around their fantasies, not only is it fun it's also good practise.

Never had anything published in the real world but who knows, the amount of practise I'm getting, one day, one day..

regards,
Jenne who's off to get some practise in-))

I submitted a story to playboy once, but they didn't accept it, something about how they think pooh isn't sexy, well I say look at that tight shirt, and no pants, how can he not be sexy. I mean come on

A Question of Rights...

I am looking for some serious info on how to maintain my rights to my contribution in a writing collaboration which takes place exclusively online through email? Is this just showing my ignorance? If so, please don't make me feel worse, just let me know. Poohlive, do you know? Poohlive knows everything. Right Poohlive? How about Laurel? (Laurel knows everything else.) I hope that there is some way I can do this. Thanks in advance to whomever lets me know.

Oh goodness...I don't know... does anyone else have any info on rights in a story like EvieD's? I'd love to know the answer to that one...

copyright protection

there are two ways to do that, but the one many use and it cost only the price of a stamp is to make a copy of the story, address it back to yourself and never open it. That way should it come to the point that you had to prove you were the original author or one of them, the dated postmark in court would serve as your effidence that the story was indeed written in part by you even if the story was later copyrighted through the copyright office. The date on the envelope would be older then the one the copyright office has on file, thus, proving that the story was written before it was legally placed on file with the copyright office. This is known as a poor mans copy right.

Poor man's copy#2//Getting paid

There's a cool free, web based service that will track delivery, confrim receipt, datestamp it, and send an e-mail to you when it is opened. The e-mail is encrypted. You have to give them a Passwprd to open the e-mail you sent. This would prove not only that you had the idea first--but that you sent it to them. The site is http://www.certifiedmail.com . There is a free version, and an enhanced, digital signature one(not free).

A lot of people think it is U.S.Postal Service Technology. It's not but seems to discourage nonsense. I use it at work when IT guys are getting a little nosy. Some friends send me inappropriate e-mails. One day I came in and caught A computer geek scrolling through my inbox. Too bad he did not have the password to open my certified e-mail.

Hound-I do know a site that pays, I've submitted a few stories and he does pay. A couple of things to consider. You split a pot with all of the other Authors on the site. Your split is based on how many times people visit your page and download your stories. The more stories you have up, the more money you get(oneor 2 pobal isin't onna do it. Some autors ave 50 or more). However...you sign an exclusivity contract. You cannot post your cash stories anywhere else. They become Members only, password protected. On the up side you get a password to all 5,000 stories on the site and free gifts throughout the year. I don't think it's cool to publish the address on Literotica's BB but if you are interested, e-mail me.

A Million Thanks to You All

Thanks to everyone who answered my post. This will help me out greatly. At this time, my work is one in progress; just outlines and sketchy character references. What started as a challenge with little possibility has become something I am proud of, and don't want to give up entirely. I think collaboration is great, though. I have not done it too much in the past, but it seems to be another way to enhance my own skills and knowledge as a writer. Thank you all again.
