A question about voting.

I seem to remember that - if one tried to vote twice - a note popped up to let you know you did your duty already.

I'll often open a poem and enjoy it so much I want to vote but have a sneaking feeling I did already.

My question is - given the disappearance of the "reminder" - how accurate is the final count?

The "reminder" disappeared, but your ID and/or ISP is still logged in, so only the first of your votes is considered.

That being said, I still think it isn't very accurate at all...

So, I can double-vote with a clear conscience? That's good to know, thanks Lauren.

That's what we're told, at least. I remember PMing Laurel about this some months ago. She said not to worry.

Indeed, for whatever reason, a poem catches your eye and you vote. After a longer time you forget about it, but the poem caught your eye for a reason perhaps, hence you may vote again. Only then the notice would show up, and it was quite unpleasant to me, one of the reasons that I hesitated, didn't vote.

The nicer, smarter than Literotica systems would not let you attempt to vote a second time (why, the system already knows when you voted), they wouldn't display the voting box and you wouldn't have a possibility to try. When nice they would even display the info under the poem (in place of the voting box), that you have already voted and also your evaluation score, which is nice to know--you don't always remember your own evalutaion, and it is interesting to know).

Hm, I didn't vote in ages :) How acurate are the votes? :) :) :) The votes for the poems are ludicrous! A randomizer would do a better job of evaluating poems than Literotica's readers or the members of this board.

Sounds a lot like my 9 year old foster daughter when she doesn't get her way. Except she punctuates her statements with a little stop of her foot.

Good idea. I'd go ever further, and suggest a log of feedback and votes that I have given, somewhere on my control panel pages. It would be useful to see who I have given a note in the past.

But I still think that the voting for poems are a bit redundant as it looks now. Not because of the qualifications of the voters, (It is real reader reactions the ratings are there for, and not academical analysis. Although I'm convinced that that could be delivered from a whole bunch of the regulars too, if they could be arsed. ;) Not me though. ), but because one mere digit is never going to be enough to summarize the pros and cons of any particular poem. It kind of works for an erotic story IMO, since the main focus, "did it excite or not" is easy to answer. But here, where other, more abscract aspects often apply, it feels a bit trife.

I still vote though, just wishing I had more options. :)

I believe in giving feedback to the best poems and just voting on others. My voting scale is as follows:

3 = average: 3 is my vote for a poem I consider average for Lit. or just average for a poet with whose work I am familiar (generally a higher standard).

2 = below average; generally because of cliches, overworked theme, bad rhymes or bad metre, etc..

1 = number 2 + typo and/or grammatical errors (doesn't use a spell/grammar checker).

4 = above average, either for Lit., or for the poet with whose work I am familiar.

5 = in simplest form, I wish I had written it.

Regards, Rybka

All the "evaluations" I have seen on this board have been statements of personal opinions. That's exactly how I take them.

This isn't "Poetry 101" - we write for pleasure and, hopefully, learn by osmosis.

Some of the poetry accepted for posting is lacking, certainly, but more power to the author for trying.
