I didn't write this, but wish I had. Author unknown. It made me think, but it made me sad:

"Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us. "

Just wanted to share

Supposedly, the internet gives everyone a voice. Under the anomisity of a screen name, one can post whatever is on their hearts and mind to the world. Everyone's own two cents can be posted worldwide to everyone else.

Heck, I posted a story here that I never would otherwise have written had it not been for a structured opportunity like this site provides.

:) Just my take on what Max meant.

A story not lost

I have two thoughts on it. First, it's a shame that either the author didn't put his or her name on the story, or that someone removed it. Second, it is nice in a way that the story is still circulating others can enjoy reading it. The longer the story the more work went into it - something that would be a shame to have just vanish.

Yea, too bad the author's name didn't come with the story, but at least the story is still there. And, someone else was honest enough to say this was a nice story and they didn't write it.

I wonder, then. Does the quote mean that we keep our music with us, even to death, or does it mean that the music that is inside is never allowed to flow free. Optimist or pessimist?

Well, what I get out of that quote is that most people in the world never get a chance to express themselves for a variety of reasons. I think the word 'music' in the quote applies to any creative impulse. But I believe the internet has changed all that.

Before the internet, the publishing world was extremely limited in the amount of people it could cater for to express all their creativity. Now... well, just look at Literotica, for example. Any old Joe can express themselves.

Scientists can now publish their thoughts and findings on the internet without the need for an established reputation. This may very well revolutionise the scientific community.

Teachers can teach without the need for a classroom.

Artists can share their works with the world without the need for a famous name.

Amateur musicians also have a platform from which to be heard - there are a number of sites where unsigned bands and musicians can post MPGs of their stuff, and even attract a following.

The internet has changed the cultural landscape of humanity, it has to be said. Whatever it is that someone has to share with the world, the ability for them to do that is now here.

The only reason why people need go to their graves now with their 'music' still inside them is if they can't be bothered to express that 'music'.

or in fact if they choose not to express it...

There are some people who cannot.

First of all, some people simply cannot address the artist within - we, in our social niche, are fortunate to have access to the support and non-judgement of an online community.

As well, there are some, I truly believe, who have no art to express. Genuine artists are born with a need to... "make music", so to speak. Some of us just HAVE to tell these stories to someone. If Lit wasn't around, we would write them anyway. We'd write them just to see how they end. Then we'd shove them in a drawer, never to let a soul read them. But the stories that must be told will be told.

As for those who repress their own artistic desires, in this day and age of inner reflection and Me-Centered-Living - if the general movements of society can't help you, nothing I say will.

So A) we who can afford to spend time on our art are fortunate.
B) those who can't? Let their souls cycle through a few times. Wait 'till they're older.
C) those who won't? God will save.
D) lit's great.

Thanks,
