Weird thread. What's it about?

Like the desert too. It's scrubby and rocky and the plants are all stunted and the only thing moving during the day is the waves of heat rising off the landscape. But still, there's something about it that draws you in. I've driven coast to coast (but not to Alaska, alas) and seen lots of places. Maybe the prettiest were the Blue Ridge Mountains, but it's had to put a score on pretty. And pretty isn't necessarily the same as awesome.
Awesome is the anvil shape of a gigantic thunderhead, with lightning shooting out beneath, or the view of the Pacific from the northern California coastline. There's a whole lot that's just amazing out there. And it all makes me smile.
Indeed, I love the desert. It's very much like the Arctic, but you don't need as many clothes. Still you need some when the sun goes down.
I wish I had the time to go to the cabin this coming weekend.

I wish I had the time to go with you, so you could show me why your views are the best. Okay if I bring my kid along? He only snores a little.
I did not say, they are the best views, but they are pretty damn fine. I only have two sleds. There are three beds at the cabin.
You can only get there by sled? I've never actually sledded anywhere but to the bottom of a sledding hill.
No, no. I can drive to the cabin. But one has to do something in winter out there. Other than cutting wood.
It's off the grid and cell reception is iffy. Internet and TV? LOL. Bring a book. People should mind their own business. Of course, my wife or GF might show up.Oh. Ha ha on me.
Sledding is fun and I can take turns. No internet or cable TV? Guess I'll have to leave my kid behind and trust you're a gentleman. What will people say?
Actually, sledding and cutting wood sounds rather delicious. That and just sitting and looking around. I'm easy to entertain. A cup of coffee on a chilly morning is enough to release my endorphins.

That does it. I'm coming. I'm hoping your wife AND girlfriend show up so I can enjoy the fireworks. Especially with them wondering what I'm doing there.
You're a nice guy, thor. I think I'd enjoy spending time with you.
Completed 6 out of 7 tax returns, netfiled the completed ones and am now waiting on the refunds. I'm feeling accomplished.
Hi Perg
Btw, I'm a little disappointed ... a Perg thread without bits getting shown?
Good on ya! I may borrow some motivation and get to some paperwork stuff that's been waiting.
Hiya, luscious wench. Bits are of course welcome. Nay, requested.
I have motivation to spare at the moment.
Had to complete returns before packing up office
converting upstairs office into 5th bedroom
finishing room in basement into new office
As for the bits, consider this a request so start posting 'em!
Little victories: Last night last thing before bed I put a new screen shield on the tablet. This morning, not a single wrinkle or bubble to be seen.
And for some reason, Percival, the Burmese cat, has taken to licking the adhesive side of the old one. I put it down in the sunbeam like flypaper for cats. Instead of getting stuck to it, he started licking it.
Cats.

Small town life: I walked into town for the mail and halfway ran into our local jeweler, with whom I'm on a first name basis. We chatted and strolled along. He's just been made chair of some committee to bring more business to the town. Two people who work at the PO greeted me by name. Stopped in both bookstores, where we have those frequent flyer accounts. Was asked both times how my in-laws are doing. Then on the way home, ran into my next-dog-neighbor and his person in the park. Stopped for a bit and met a woman I'd known by name who was also there, waiting for her husband at the barber. Offered her and her dog a ride to the barber...which offer was met with not even a shred of suspicion or caution, but rather a sort of good-natured lack of surprise at such simple generosity, as though it were the baseline in a place like this. Which it is.
Aaargh, that silly movie. But yeah, they really are.Is George Bailey still running the bank? Small towns are sweet.
I live just outside a small village. I have lots of stories like that.
