A note on Islamic Progression.

You are a U.S. citizen now?

Turn your back on the old world.

Let them work it out, if possible.

Let's you and I concentrate on being examples of cultures based on rule and not cultures based on culture.

Yes

As I pointed out earlier [and as a menber of a much earlier American culture, Indian too, in a way]

Yes, it's a fair exchange.

This, new world says, unlike the old world, Tribal affliations don't mean a thing. If you accept the laws, which you have a say in, a real first, then we will accept [tolorate] your ways.

Let your old culture be. It is older and has progressed to ...

You are valued here.

My daughter is valued here.

Which is why as someone whose blood is ancient here, proscribes to the Constitution laid down by the conqueres.

It's a fair exchange. One that we are happy with.

God, Allah, Buddah, Bless the USA...

so basically all Americans should forget everything about where they or their ancestors came from and live a "true American life," eh?

well, ok. who knows how to build a teepee from scratch? make moccassins? muckalucks? butcher a buffalo w/o letting anything go to waste? do the same for a seal? a whale? build an igloo? do a spirit dance?

i'm guessing not many.

un-American pig-dogs.

The apparent "lack of progress" comes from our instant everything view which at best, is tenth grade mentality. Given the history of civilizations, five thousand years is about the time it takes for major evolution in cultures. I feel the old religions need a reform movement, which will come...in time.
Look at the "blink of an eye' history of the USA. A few hundred years ago, we sold people, restricted women in finding their own independence, and were puritanical in our religion.
Until reform comes through blood, or a hundred generations from now, women and children in that region will bear the brunt of fanatics and their followers.

Scyl

That is absurd.

I do not forget where my ancestors came from.

America, Germany, Sweden, Ireland, who knows where else.

But I do know where they came to.

And why.

And while they did not just "drop thier cultures,"

They did decide to buy into the new world and it's new constitution and hence I am not a slave, but a person of means.

Like the tides

Actually, womens rights in the Islamic or Moslem world have ebbed and flowed throughout their history. There was a time when they had more power to effect change within their societies than did women in the West. Then things changed, and Western women had the more progressive environment. This is not to say that all Islamic and Moslem nations are alike, in some there is more progress than in others. We should always avoid making blanket statements that do not necessarily reflect the true state of affairs.

If you have family serving in the Hindu Military, then eventually, you have family who may be enemies of the United States.

Who will you back?

Uh

Your secular state has nukes and muslims fighting hindus, I've read the recent reports. They even ran out the Buddists (one of your native religions).

Time to say,

I'm an American. The Indians are on thier own.

[That's what my grandpa and teachers, American Indians, say].

Oh gawd, too tired too say when, but we all know the Buddha was an Indian Prince and that Buddism was run out by the muslims, I can't remember the year, but did survive in Ceylon, China, Tibet and spread to other places...

The Muslims did this by conquest bolstered by a belief system that said, "if your are not Muslim, you deserve what you get."

Now they are trying to expand again.

Remember, we martial artists are always reminded, the Bodidharma came from India...

Islamic progression.:D
I like it.......has a nice ring to it.
If only it were true.
What century have they progressed to? the 10th?

In BanglaDesh acid attacks are still carried out on women who don't obey or trangress the "law", the police turn a blind eye.
Islamic progression:D

Barbarians.

My allegiance lies with the US. My heart lies with my family. There is no Hindu Military. India is a secular state.

Namaste! Yeah, Right! Secular state, my lingam!

Then howcum Congress (I) wins most of the time...

The Sikhs have avery influential place in the military, I'll grant you - but how many Goanese or Untouchables get anywhere - Yeah therew are "programmes" and "initiatives" to mainstream them, as Ghandi-ji tought, but the upper caste Hindus still hold the majority of the strings...

and you KNOW that that is true...

Namaste!

What exaclty do you know of those programs? One third of seats in local and state governments are secured for woman, if a woman doesn't take that office, the seat lies empty. One Third of those seats, leadership positions are held for reserved castes and tribes. Tell me where in the US are the Poorest of the poor reserved a seat in the government?

Yes, true. But ACTUALLY, the hegemony is still held among the few... And I'll bet that your family is from the North, No? if I am mistaken, please accept my apologies. ;)

And, if you review me and my posts - I am not American - I live in that "banana republic" across the river... :D

Sikhs don't make up a majority of India, actually they are fewer in number than the Muslim population. Hell, according to the CIA's 2001 report, the Christian population is double that of the Sikh.

Yup. My point exactly. Sikhs have influence in the military, beyond their population - for Hindu religious reasons. But Brahmins et al still hold the reins, IMHO.

Ghandhiji thought that the state shouldn't be partitioned, he thought that the best way to root out the religious differences was to force the different religions to co-exist. You know what happened. Pakistan is now an independant if tenuous state.

Yup again. I concur. And wasn't that sad that Nehru and Jinnah were both assholes who couldn't get along? Millions of people suffered for some misplaced testosterone.

IMHO, from experience, and for pragmatic reasons, we in the West will likely support India over the Pakis in the longterm. :)

There are only four states where the upper castes exercise control. Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajastan and Uttar Pradesh. All found in the North.

AND - the North still controls the country. Bangalore, with its aviation/aerospace industry is about the only significant city economically, south of Mumbai.

'Nuff said? Peace.

Namaste.

Your comments on the non-secular state are wearing a bit. What do you actually know of India, and from where. I can claim personal knowledge from access to the government, and from experience, I have stayed in India for short stretches.

I've never studied India but, living in a predominantly Asian area in the UK, I am absorbed by it and its culture.

My knowledge of the country and its peoples comes really from long heated exchanges with various Indian friends of mine.

And what I gather is that nobody likes or trusts the Moslems.

I wouldn't tell my Moslem friends that, but I think they've guessed...
