It is good you are feeling you have an exciting future ahead, but it is also good to realise that each person on the board (or in the lifestyle/community) and the label they identify with, do not have the same relationship, boundaries, or limits as others who share that label or role. We are all individual and develop the relationship which best suits our needs and those of our partner/s. And you are right, there is a difference in theory, but what some describe as slave, I and others think of as a submissive, and vice versa..it all becomes very subjective, the important thing being that you choose the role and subsequent vision of that role which fits you. Enjoy the journey.
