More to come in just a bit. I gotta take my boy to his martial arts class. He gets his Blue Belt tonight. :nana:

Oooooooo!

I love the gear and chains, as well as the truck a lot!

The truck for it's balls to the wall boldness, and the chains cause I like tools and this rather biological-looking display of them.

Great photography, Halo!
What's the make and model of your new cam?
Thank you. Its a Nikon CoolPix 8800. Its turning out to be a great starter camera for me. I really love a lot of what its capable of doing.

Update ...

Got some information about the old house that I've been posting pics of ...

Its roughly an eighty year old piece of property that the Airport Authority took over ten or so years ago. They've been in litigation over the property for historical reasons. Basically they want to tear it all down. ALL of it. The house the surrounding structures, the trees, everything. They have apparently won their litigation and the demolition will begin within the next couple of weeks.

I'm going to be doing a great deal more trespassing during this little bit of time the property has left with its dignity. The place is an artistic and photographic treasure trove. It will be a waste to see it go.

Got some great composition here but your speed/f-stop settings are off. Therefore, darkeness, lightness, and color vibrance are not really showing through.

I'm curious as to which ones you're refering to? Also, don't forget the title of this thread ...

That's one of my favorite shots of her. Also I've been fortunate enough to be blessed with a second model who started for me this weekend, and there's a possible third and fourth in the wings. When it rains it pours and I'm not complainin'!!!

I took roughly 300-400 pics this past Saturday. We burned about 6 hours of nothing but shooting. She's going to be here every weekend or so throughout November to do shoots with us.

Neener, neener, neeener ...

If you want the link to my MySpace profile, there are some of the pics on slideshow there. PM me for details ...

Most of them. The last photo involving the model and the dog was great though. I realize the title of the thread and thus am trying to help ya out there. The little screen on the back of your camera will help. Best to stop down until you develop "Hot Spots" in your info screen then click one to 1/2 stop above.

Back you your critique ...

I'm not one for the warm and vibrant colors that photographers are so stuck on. I purposely gave the outside photos a bit of a wash in the f-stop settings to give more of an impression of a hot day in the sun and to add to the run-down-edness of the things and places I was shooting. In several of the shots i don't feel that I took the effect far enough. Fortunately there's always tomorrow. :)

The pics of the models are also exactly what I wanted. I'm not going to explain why I was after what I did, but rather I'll just say that when they're hanging on the wall they do exactly what I intended them to.

While this is a new medium for me to be using, its not a new medium to me. I never had the maturity to put it to use the ways I would liked to have, and I think I'm just getting into that maturity now.

Something that's stirred up a unkind comment or two in the past is I don't consider photography to be a "true" art. It has incredible limitations that true artforms don't have. Because I'm an artist first, and then a developing photographer, I'm asking things of the photography that traditional photographers probably wouldn't pursue.

Mind you, this is not to say that I know what the hell I'm doing every time I press the button. I've definitely fucked up some shots pretty royally. But that's part of the fun of learning ... and not having to post my fuck-ups. :D

Oh yes you cannot learn photography except through experience of a messed up shot or two.

I do have to disagree, however, about photography not being an art. I will not argue as photography is near and dear to my heart and would wind up on my soap box. I simply point to the Etymology of the word courtesy of Wikipedia-

From the Greek words φως phos ("light"), and γραφις graphis ("stylus", "paintbrush") or γραφη graphê, together meaning "drawing with light"

I'm sure we could both soapbox the crap out of this. I go by much more contemporary terminologies used in photography and art mediums:

In photography one says "Capture."

In art one says "Create."

We should probably agree to disagree right there. :D

Lookin' for votes here ...

I entered one of the pics I took into a little photo competition on the net. I'm hoping some of you might go check it out and vote what you think it deserves?

The link is below and the pic is down in the bottom right corner of the page. Its titled "Out Behind the Shed" and does contain a very attractive young woman gone topless. You can click on it for the largest version they'd let me submit.

Thanks everyone.

Edit:

I just noticed that because of new entrants, my photo has gone to the second page ... just in case anyone goes hunting for it now.

Thanks again.
