A Million Women Are Planning to March on D.C. When Trump Takes Office

Now, just a few days after the election, women across the country are coming together to organize a Million Women March the weekend Trump is sworn in as president. “A lot of women got up the second day with the same idea,” Bob Bland, a New York-based organizer, told Reuters. The march is planned for Jan. 21, 2017, at Washington, D.C.’s Lincoln Memorial.

Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich discusses Donald Trump’s election: ‘My big fear is — we are Rome.’

Popovich, a U.S. Air Force veteran, told assembled media that he’s “sick to his stomach” that Trump was elected, adding, “It leaves me wondering where I’ve been living, and with whom I’m living.”

Popovich lamented the election results. I’m just sick to my stomach,” he said. “Not basically because the Republicans won or anything, but the disgusting tenure and tone and all of the comments that have been xenophobic, homophobic, racist, misogynistic.”

“And what gets lost in the process are African Americans, and Hispanics, and women, and the gay population, not to mention the eighth-grade developmental stage exhibited by him when he made fun of the handicapped person. I mean, come on. That’s what a seventh-grade, eighth-grade bully does. And he was elected president of the United States. We would have scolded our kids. We would have had discussions until we were blue in the face trying to get them to understand these things. He is in charge of our country. That’s disgusting.”

"And now we see that he’s (Trump is) already backing off of immigration and Obamacare and other things, so was it a big fake, which makes you feel it’s even more disgusting and cynical that somebody would use that to get the base that fired up. To get elected."

Male Trump supporter-

"Hey, we need to start standing up, man.’ We are done being bullied into a corner by these liberal, left-wing, progressive Nazi foot soldiers.”

Female Trump supporter-

“I’m a deplorable. Whatever. I’m also called narrow-minded. You know what? There is so much talk about tolerance. Where’s the tolerance for me as a Christian? Where’s the tolerance for me as a Republican? There’s none.”

"White supremacy requires a nonstop diet of aggressive deceit, trickery and diversion."

Black folks don’t have the individual or collective power to disenfranchise white people, police them aggressively or deny them adequate housing, education, employment and voting rights. There’s no power structure that targets whites the way structures of racism target people of color. And no matter how much it might hurt someone’s feelings to be accused of racism, that’s not the same as the harm that still happens to black people every day.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

"I only speak for myself as an African American and I speak with the rage of betrayal."

"...black Americans saw a glimmer of hope that white Americans were finally acknowledging the overwhelming evidence of institutional racism that had been glaringly obvious to blacks for many years. But that hope was misplaced. Instead, a majority of white America chose to swallow the blue pill, preferring to, as Morpheus explains in “The Matrix,” “wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.”

"How can we hope that this man understands or cares about us? Especially now that white America has rewarded his outrageous racism, misogyny, xenophobia and religious intolerance with a mandate to put those beliefs into policy. For African Americans, America just got a little more threatening, a little more claustrophobic, a lot less hopeful. We feel like disposable extras, the nameless bodies who are never part of the main cast."

2018 midterm elections during which all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and one-third of Senate seats will be in play. People of color cannot merely play defense anymore. They must mount a long-term offensive that includes relentlessly challenging every act of institutional racism in the country.

One of the points that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar made, was that all of the people that disagree with Trump must join together, if we are to make a noticable impact.

gsgs comment-

President Obama was elected because of the strength of the voices from all of the people that wanted everyone to share in America's future.

Prior obligations, fuck. I'm not being snide here, but we're booked into Arizona then (gotta visit sisters) and we just can't drive the housecar cross-country in time to get there for the march. And no, we would not have tried to make HRC's inauguration. We don't do inaugurations. Well, maybe Bernie's...

Yes, Jan 20 ish is a common time for a polar vortex breakout in the Northeast, combined with the dampness in D.C., and the inauguration crowds ( Trump draws crowds) , it isn't likely to be a comfortable time to go. Unless they dress a particular way, they will likely be lost in the crowds. If they do dress a particular way, there's a lot of potential for confrontation.

So, in short, like Hands Across America, it seems to be better on intentions than planning.

Paul Ryan: Access to birth control for women is ‘nitty-gritty detail’ not worth talking about

The Wisconsin Republican promised during an interview on CNN that the repeal of Obamacare would lower the costs of health care by providing “vouchers” to poor Americans.

CNN host Jake Tapper noted that many women were paying nothing for birth control thanks to an Affordable Care Act mandate.

“Is that going to end?” he wondered.

“Look, I’m not going to get into all the little nitty-gritty details of these things,” Ryan replied curtly.

“With all due respect,” Tapper countered, “I don’t know that the average woman of childbearing years out there who relies upon contraception provided by health insurance mandated by the Affordable Care Act, I don’t know that she would think that that’s just a nitty-gritty detail.”

“You’re asking me details about legislation that hasn’t been written yet!” Ryan complained.

Proving that he really has no role in drafting legislation, he's just a puppet doing what he's told.

hey, maybe you can finally get laid?

Where were all these women when Bill Clinton was being sworn in? You know someone who actually grabbed pussy. The President will still be sworn in and while I don't think he will fulfill every promise many people will have to deal with reality. That includes girls can still aspire to be president, and most people's lives will continue without issue.
