A message about Joesephus

I'm Josephus' ex roommate. I got a very brief note that said Joesephus was killed Saturday night/Sunday morning. He had gone home for his mother's wedding, and was killed by a drunk driver. Critter (his wife's nickname) has been notified, but I don't have any other details.

All his stories were posted through my ISP to keep his ID secret. I do have his passwords, and once I have some details I might post under his ID. In the meantime keep Critter in your thoughts. She is in Baghdad and this is going to be impossible for her to accept.

Fuck.

I don't even know what to say. Joesephus was the first person on Lit to offer me help and we wound up talking on a daily basis for months. He is the one who helped me to finish my first two stories and not give up when things became difficult. He was a brilliant young man and someone I had hoped to meet some day in person. I know some of the details of his private life and know this must be complicated, but if it's possible to pass on condolences, please do so. He was truly a good friend and a good person . . . and far too young to die.

I will try.

Joesephus would have been 26 the end of November. Except for computers, he was the smartest man I know. He just had this insight with people. I can't tell you how many friends he had. I'm having a hard time with this. I don't know if Critter can get home.

The message I got was stark. I don't know if they will let his body back in the US since he wasn't a citizen.

I don't mean to be a bitch....but.....would you please tell me that it's your idea of a bad joke? I'd hate you less thinking that you thought yourself funny than knowing you're saying the truth.

I can't allow myself to believe that what you're saying is the truth. I spoke to Joe no later than last week. I can't believe I'll never do so again. :(

Well, shit.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to Critter.

R.I.P. Josephus.

We are all diminished... All the sympathy in the world for his closest ones. I can't even imagine what you must be going through :rose:

I wish I were. As far as I know I am the only one alive who knows about joesephus and what he called his "secret project to change the world." I don't know if you knew he'd started a book in his own language based on one he started here. It's the one you told him to publish. He took out some of the sex and added more politics. He was very excited because he showed it to a publisher and they were very interested.

I'm so mad I want to cry. I'm sending emails to his team mates and friends, but I haven't been able to talk to anyone down there, and his father doesn't know anything either.

I will post here when I know more.

Fuck! I don't want to believe it! I just don't want to believe it!:(

I remember that story you're talking about; I thought and still think it was an absolute masterpiece and I did tell Joe he should publish it. I'm glad to know he had taken my advice but completely sad that now the world has lost so much with his passing. :(

I'm making the rounds of all our common acquaintances and telling them the news. Please, if and when you know more, let me know so I can keep them informed too. :(

He will be sadly missed!

As you know I keep in contct with just a few authors. Joe was one of them. I would send him daily jokes and e-mail and he often told me how he appreciated them. He told me his wife was in the service and how he often missed her. He will be truly missed both as a budding writer and a friend.
My sympathy goes out to all his family and friends. Way to young to be gone already.

A few months ago, prior to Critter being shipped to Iraq, I got to know him while, at his request, going over some of his writing. Like LadyCibelle, I thought he was an extrordinary talent, even more so considering English was his second language.

And now he's gone. Damn it.

Rumple Foreskin

Though I didn't know him, I'm very sorry to hear about this. I extend my sympathies to all of you who were friends.

It happens to the best, man. He blazed a helluva trail while he was here, but this is monstrous. Keep us informed, man.

My sympathies and condolences to Josephus' family and friends.

Requiescat in Pace :rose:

Josepheus used to post friequently on my Christians thread, bless him, he had such a kind heart and was so very gentle, you could see it in his every post.

My heart goes out to close friends and family and I will hold you all in my prayers. :rose:

I remember seeing the name here, but I don't think I ever talked to him. Wish I had.

:rose: to his family and friends. At peace.
