My new story, The Last Hitchhiker, was posted late Tuesday night. Its been less than twelve hours and it has gotten four thousand reads, but what is impressive is the votes. It has seventy two votes, the votes must all be either fives or ones, maybe a few two. The score is a disappointing 3.4'

By comparsion my most read story has eighty thousand reads but only eighty one votes. It however has a score of 4.4, but it has been posted since 2007.

There is a link in my sig if you're intrested. I would love to hear what you think.

Ha! Your first dip into LW waters....sit back and enjoy the comments.

If literotica is boating than Loving Wives is whitewater boating

The numbers are something, half as many as my most popular story in less than twelve hours, is pretty amazing to me.

Box, I know you have been here before haven't you? Have you Jomar?
just curious.

I was curious about my loving wives stories, so I checked mine.

None of them are "H" - but I don't feel this category has done me wrong. The two with the most comments are definitely my two most controversial stories and I think they were that way because they made the reader pause and really think about the circumstances surrounding the characters' lives.

I get more complaints because I stick wives that cheat on their husbands in this category, as well as wives that give themselves to other men - with their husbands knowledge. I figure I have the Loving Wife cheating angle covered, as well as the Loving Wife loving angle! :D

Why yes, yes I have. And none got the pretty red H though I feel pretty certain if I'd submitted in EC they would have. But man, the comments were awesome! I also think that there was spinoff troll zero votes on my other stories, so prepare for that. Most of the 0 votes got wiped in the sweeps, but still.

That seems to be a pretty good score to me

My effort does not shine as brightly I fear. at last check 5706 reads 125 votes 13 comments. Score 3.33, but the comments are either really good or "You can't kill folks ' sort of stuff.

Red you're doing better in LW than I am in the rest of lit. My hats off to you.

My comments aren't usually to angry. Those two I mentioned, caused more of an intellectual debate on the circumstances, others questioned why the stories were in Loving Wives, when the wives weren't cheating. Another had issues with a story because the circumstances weren't erotic, but more heart-wrenching, and they told me the story should be placed in Non-erotic, yet I had described the sexual interaction, so I really couldn't place it there - could I've?

Well, That's a cheery thought

I guess that will give me something to look forward to. I have stories that are good but they are stashed away in erotica horror and fetish and don't do nearly as well. If only the extreme votes didn't take away your chances of that little red H. I know it cheapens me but I like seeing it by my stories.

I have written 12 stories in LW, and none of them has an H either. The highest score is 4.49. Most of them are about cheating wives, but I have some swingers and one about a woman who actually enjoys making love with her husband. That one probably has the lowest score.

It Cuts Both Ways No sex for six months, and Jackie is at her breaking point.
4.55 339 88503 Loving Wives (English) Public Comments: 41

And my other one, in my third pen name:

4.34 307 52934 Loving Wives (English) Public Comments: 28

The first is a cheating story where nobody really comes out ahead. The second is a bait-and-switch where there was no actual cheating -- true to the description of the category, if not the typical content of it.

I've tried Loving Wives from different angles (but sparingly).

I do have one that's rated H, but it was a Christmas contest one and had enough other categories working inside it to hold it up. It ran very hot until the usual folks at LW saw it.

I do have an E Loving Wives story, though, which was probably trolled simply for being an E story

Ditto on mine. It Cuts Both Ways spent the first year in the 4.7s, then dropped into the 4.6s over a couple of years, and has only dropped into the 4.5s this year.

The other very briefly was above 4.5, spent quite a while in the 4.4s, and has only recently descended into the 4.3s

The various camps in LW create an environment where high scores are offensive to them, and demand repeated low voting to remedy it. Even a story that does well in the beginning is likely to descend steadily as time goes on.

Agreed. And no matter what anyone says, we all like seeing the red/blue/green squares next to our stories

LW is the cesspool where trolls go to feed. From what I have read on this board, that has been the case for a very long time. Lately, however, I think there are even more trolls spitting their vitriol than in years past.

Earlier today I scanned the hubs of all the major categories. Of those with ten stories listed, LW had by far the lowest scores, and not a single H. In contrast, Nonhuman had seven of the ten stories with an H. Only one other category had none, but the average scores were nearly .7 higher than LW. Every other major category had between 1 and 5 stories listed with an H. The highest score of the LW stories was 4.11, and that was the only score over 4.0.

This experiment only provided a snapshot. It would take repeated samplings over several weeks to establish the voting patterns in full detail. Nonetheless, the message is clear: Post in LW at your own peril. With the exception of a few writers who have sizable followings (e.g., stangstar06), your scores will suffer, and the wrath of the trolls will sometimes spread to your other stories.

I also looked at RedHairedandFriendly's scores. She may be an exception, but most likely she fits the pattern. All but one of her stories posted in 2006-07. As other authors have noted in this thread, they saw their stories with decent scores erode over time. The stories did not get worse; rather, the trolls multiplied and sought out additional material on which to vent their rage.

A sobering thought

You know bottom line is this, I am too old to make it as a writer. This is a hobby.

These stories are the Estes Rocket Kits I played with as a kid. It's a little work and then you get to watch it fly. It is a lot of planning and doing for a small amount of watching. But it is worth it .

The readership in Loving Wives seem to be like a pit full of gators. That being the case I am going to stand on the bank and toss them a few stories and see which ones they snap up and which ones they spit out.

My next story is going in a different direction for me. Gonna try a bit of off world story telling. The title should be a clue, 'L.I.T. World', It will be interesting to watch also.

thanks all,
mike
