A little help on the side of the road

This afternoon my wife and I decided to go for a ride. We were going through withdrawal and the beast was getting feisty. We pulled on our leathers and helmets and headed out.

It was warm, hell it was downright hot out. We were sweating in our leathers as we rode. I could feel the sweat rolling down my back under my jacket while we were moving along. We're talking it was a bit of misery riding.

Then we came upon an older pick up on the side of the road with the hood up. We pulled over to see what the problem was.

In the cab of the truck was a younger couple and their little one. They looked at me in suspicion and fear as I walked over from where I had parked the bike. The guy told me the truck had chugged a couple of times then quite when I asked him what was up.

I looked under the hood and checked things out. Everything looked god so I had him turn it over a couple of times. It turned over okay and I was getting spark when I pulled a plug to check it. Then I crawled under the truck and checked things out under there. I checked a few things then tapped his gas tank. The damned thing echoed. I tapped it a bit more and figured out he was out of gas even though his gauge read a quarter tank. OKay so this was an easy fix.

I asked him if he had a spare can and he didn't. I told him to hang on a bit, there was a gas station down the road a ways. My wife and I hopped the bike and tool off for the gas station.

The station didn't have any cans we could borrow, although they were more than willing to send out a wrecker to tow the truck to the station. I told them to forget it and rode another couple of miles to Wal_Mart where I picked up a five gallon can. We stopped at the station in the Wal-Mart and filled the gas can. My wife held the can as we rode back to the truck.

The couple looked on in surprise as I climbed off the bike, took the can from my wife and dumped the gas in their tank. They looked on in even more surprise as their engine fired and I tossed the can into the back of their truck while telling them where to get more gas.

OKay so I dropped $20.00 on this rescue of people I didn't know but it was worth it just to see the looks on their faces. They were smiling as they pulled back into traffic and I was feeling pretty damned good. I reckon I surprised them a bit.

I see people pulled over and wish that I had the know how to pull over and help them. Some day I will be the person needing the help though.

That was sweet of you and the missus!!:rose::rose:... You know what will happen don't you... One day. maybe not tomorrow or the next but someday that couple will be riding down the road, they'll see someone broken down on the side of the road, and they will remember you and what you did today and they'll stop to help.

People usually speak of Karma as bad people being punished, but it works both ways.

Doesn't it make you feel good all day to help strangers? That was VERY kind of you.

And trust me, being on the receiving end of that kindness is mindblowing.
