Some of you may remember my thread about the letter I sent to a sports writer at the Daily Telegraph after an ill-informed article about a sports player who is taking a leave of absence due to stress and possibly depression.
Well, today, I got a reply.
I haven't read it personally yet, as it's gone to my hometime address, as opposed to my termtime one, but I've had it read over the phone to me. In it, the writer says that she is generally of the 'pull-your-socks-up' brigade as she has seen a few cases of sports people malingering and wasting their talent. However, she concedes that it would be unlike Trescothick (the man in question) to have an attitude and says that I have made my point well. She finishes by thanking me "for taking her to task over this issue."
I was barely expecting a preprinted missive 'From the desk of Sue Mott' and I have got a handwritten letter from the writer herself, which clearly shows that she has not only read my letter, but given it careful consideration and actually amended her worldview from the new information which she received. I am astoundingly impressed with the class of Ms Mott and cannot wait until I return home in a weeks time, so I can read the letter myself.
Thank you all for your help with the letter. I just thought you'd like to share in the happy of discovering another open mind in the world.
