Ohio House Bill 221 would allow unused, individually sealed prescription drugs to be donated to the state for redistribution to people who cant afford to pay for them. Many people pass on leaving these drugs behind, it was against the law to give them away, this bill will help a lot of people. Sometimes elected officials get it right.:)

I hope the seals could be approved tho.....some sickos might do something to the medicine....

Sounds good in theory, I can't wait to hear about it in practice.

Please define an unused, individually sealed prescription drug. I'm guessing these are the ones in "blister packs" where each dose is individually sealed, but the percentage of drugs that are dispensed this way is very low due to expense of packaging. The vast majority of drugs that are dispensed via a prescription are in the traditional pill bottle with a child proof cap.

Also, from where do these drugs come? Would they leave a pharmacy to go to a private household and from there be returned for use by someone else? If this is what is meant, the potential for adulteration is very great.

I have many questions about the details of how this will work. It'll certainly require a new bureaucracy just to manage the returns and redistribution. I suspect that in the long run it would be cheaper for the state to just buy the drugs new and give them away to the poor.
