A labor of love . . . I think

I've posted my first story in over seven months. The reason: It took me that long to write the damned thing. Have you ever had one of those stories that just doesn't cooperate with you?

This story went through so many false starts, derailments and rewrites I thought I would never finish it. I would put it away for a couple of months, reopen it, wrestle with it, give up and repeat the process all over. Finally, I decided the story wasn't going to beat me and I forced myself to finish it. Now I feel like a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

Judging by the first flurry of votes, people seem to like it a lot. I'm just glad the whole thing is over.

If any of you would like to check it out, here's the link:

I sympathise medjay. I had a period of writers block for about 6 months when I started and abandoned about 6 stories. However when I got over it I wrote 5 stories in 2 weeks, so it wasn't too bad.

 5 stories in 2 weeks?

I'd be lucky if i could manage that many in a year! :(

Usually that doesn't happen, it was just a sudden burst of creativity after 6 months of not being able to write anything.

I have that same problem, I have been writing this sci-fi multi-part story, a bit of an epic, really. I know exactly what's going to happen, but every now and then I have a little glitch that keeps me from being entirely happy with its progression. I have the next chapter virtually complete, but I'm not entirely happy with the ending for this chapter.

What I find a little distressing is that readers never seem to understand what it is to be a writer - I've written around 25 stories on Lit so far, and for a while I was unemployed and so I could pump them out twice a month and more. Now I have very little time available, I've put out a couple of stories in the last six months. But people keeping asking where the next bit is.

Well, I guess it's nice to have the interest. I will just have to find some more time to devote to it all. New Year's resolution, perhaps.

The fact that it's only 3 weeks left of the Survivor Contest has given me an amazing rush of inspiration...:cattail:

Like having recovered from a broken wing and finally being able to fly again?

With Medjay having said that he forced himself to finish his story and your mention of deadlines, i'm left wondering if anyone sets their own personal date by which to have finished by.

Deadlines are my best friend. Otherwise I'd never get anything done.

But when you're your own boss it's too easy to blow off the deadlines because the boss won't mind. :D

That's exactly why i can't use the damn things. :D

Lol. Sounds like a hitch-hiker's quote.

Funnily enough, i picked it up off Enterprise. I think Trip said it.

It was either that or choose one of the more obscure quotes from Buffy... :)

I think the quote might be from Buffy

I'm shocked when I look back and see that I have 15 submissions in 6 months (4 of which I was also a grad student). I'm so excited when I realized that and I'm really proud. Some of it is great some of it is merely ok and a few things aren't that great.

Now that's cruel. You just want to see me cry, don't you... :)
