Well I would start with the ball dropping at Times Square at the end of the story and work my way backwards setting up a chain of events involving different characters. Shoot for some 4-6 characters and how they interact. Beyond that it would help if you'd read some stories of someone who wrote some humor. Don't know anyone off hand unfortunately.

Oh the ball dropping is such a great metaphor, you can't let that one go. A couple or group have a hotel room just off of Times Square and their activities reach their peak as the ball decends. That is such a "target rich environment".

I'm still visualizing his "pile" of characters. That's ripe for some comical sexual situations.
