Rather than reposting the thread altogether I'm going to throw the link in at the end of this post.

Basically I have a book idea that has some controversial subject matter, and I'm simply too ignorant of how to go about getting it put together and published. Not to mention that there's a lot of question about how to do the book correctly so that its taken in the correct context.

Any suggestions and commentary are welcome.

ok first off. let me explain why the post im about to write is goingt o be disjointed. ive had 2 hours of sleep. my 2 yr olddint want to sleep last night. BUT! this is something i HAVE to post on...

H-n-H-- as a victim of abuse myself AND an artist, I completely understand what your trying to say... but [ya knew that was coming right?] at least for me, there is no way, that combining eroticism and doing a book as a fundraiser to help victims would ever work. its probably my personal opinion, but having an erotic photograph/artwork etc, depicting something that had happened to me, in an act of violence, would hurt me. im sure there are people out there with differing opinions than me {yes i read part of the other thread-- couldtn read it all because my eyes are swimming right now}. i thikn the idea, of doing a book, highlighting survivors of abuse is a fabulous idea. i just think that it would be better recieved if the 'dark' side of things were left out. i am a member of an art website, that promotes all types of art. A man on the site, posted a drawing, of a young woman, lying on her stomach, with her--girlie parts-- exposed.. his take on it, was it was her looking into her past at her accuser. me personally, i think i twas tacky and way out of line. for me, theres a very fine line between a beautiful piece of artwork, and utter tackiness.

ok, thats it for that aspect of it

as for getting the book published... you could self publish, you could try to find an organization to back it {if it takes off,it would be a helluva tax write off} you could even do it Ebook format--

{i am curious at what you decide to do with this.. }

Thank you for your response despite your lack of sleep. Further down in that thread I explained in much greater detail my thoughts about the erotica aspect, and its really not the theme of the works I'd like to compile. After you've had some good sleep check it out and let me know what you think.

Thanks again, and good luck with the two-year old. Been there, done that and don't envy you :rolleyes:.

hihi.. ok, so i can understand where your coming from a bit better now..{and amazing enough some ideas have poppedinto my head!} you want to show the beauty that can be reached, thru dealing with the pain{fear/tears}. does that about sum it up? yeh, it sounded a lot better in my head, than how it looks written... this is an absolutely great concept. seriously.. just one that your gonna have to tread VERY carefully on.

as to the sleep issue... yeh, im screwed i think {and no in a GOOD way}. took a sleep aid, after i got the boys to their respective rooms, and i was out before 9 {yay!} but, i woke up @ midnight, and here it is 1:10a, and im still awake. i think its that this house is to quiet. AND with my 2yo getting up in the middle of the night, well, that just makes it worse.. and i imagine that the reason he wakes up, is he hears me.. u know?? a big ugly cycle....

I think 5pints is right in that your going to get a mixed reaction to this work.

You can guage this by advertising your work on amazon.com as a 'coming soon' thing and see what level of interest you get. You can then take pre-publishing orders and effectively not publish the books until you've sold them (you get 30 days to supply them after your official publishing date).

I have no idea how trying to link this with a charity would go... perhaps you could highlight the charity by having a percentage of each book sale donated to it.

Good luck with this.

Hmmm...It looks like my long-winded post went to the original thread instead of to this one. I hope some of my thoughts prove helpful.

I think you got it. And treading carefully, to say the least, is a top priority. This subject matter is difficult enough for people. Getting proper participation will be tougher than publishing by the looks of it.

Yep. Yer screwed. But getting the right sleep for your body and mind is going to be crucial for yourself and the youngins. You may want to talk to a doctor about their seelping habits.
