I love hard cover books. I love all books. I love words. But I especially love hard cover books. There is something about the feel of them, and the anticipation of the treasure of the words that are hidden between the covers, that is unlike anything else.

I always keep the paper sleeves on my hard cover books to protect them, but I often remove those sleeves to admire the understated beauty of the covers themselves. If you buy a hard cover book and never remove the paper sleeve you are depriving yourself of one of the joys of the medium. Without the paper sleeve the book is fully revealed in all its naked glory. Removing the sleeve is akin to unlocking a treasure box. You must first unlock the box before you can open it and reveal the treasures that are inside. Yet, when you are done, you always relock the box to protect it before putting it away for safekeeping.

Take a moment and pull a hard cover book off your shelves and remove the sleeve - unlock it - breathe deeply and admire the treasure that you hold in your hands.

Savor the moment.

And they're better for smacking people upside the head :D

Seriously though, you're absolutely right... though i think you got a bit too deep and meaningful for a while ;)

Keep up the good work

I always remove the jackets when I get a new hardcover. Only, I never put them back on. I dislike the glossy paper covered with images from the story. I want to go into the book without preconceived ideas about the imagery.

Ruby sent me two hard cover books. Both arrived naked. I get to open each book and not have a clue what they're about until I get into them. I love that.

I do the same thing, Cowgirl (as you found out). *g*

I dislike the look of books on my shelf with the covers on. They are a thing of beauty without the cover.

Women are a thing of beauty without the covers on them as well... *grin*

Oh don't feel that way - uncover yourself - I'm sure the women will find much beauty to admire... *grin*

Oh yeah, in the spirit of the thread, I definitely think everyone needs to remove their covers before posting.

I agree about taking the covers off. For me it's the smell of a fresh book before it's tainted with smoke and rubbed off perfume. Looking at my book shelf you can tell my books are well loved. The spines are twisted, the pages are loose, there are love letter in a few stretching the binding. They're a part of me.

I don't think I should remove my covers in the office, but there's a good book and a bubble bath waiting for me at home.

I love the smell of old books... ones with yellowed pages. I keep my 'antiques' in a glass front cabinet, and when I open it to pull out a book, I can almost smell the history behind them.

Bated breath and all that. ;)

I like to keep the paperback covers on the books to protect them - though I agree they look better on the shelves without them.

Now - regarding uncovering of people... just the thought of the treasures beneath the covers of these beautiful women have me in a state where uncovering myself could get me in A LOT of trouble...

It's the sound of that "crack" upon opening a brand new hard cover that just makes me tingle all over.

Do tell, Dill darlin. In detail.

Do tell?

There is no hard cover on the book that is me. But in the process of uncovering me - beneath my clothing - you would find a treasure of enduring hardness. Released from its confinement, rampant and throbbing, it would seek, like a guided missile, the warmth of the female treasures that I ache to explore fully, throroughly, and in great detail.

mmmm.... very nice darlin. :)

amazing, isn't it that i have treasures aching to be discovered?

Earthshaking. As always... hence the...

CRACK!!!

And pcg - regarding that ache... I know just the cure...

My hardcover books look all raggedy. Some still have the dust jackets on them, some don't. The ones that do have the jacket look fine, but I take the jacket off before I read them...too slippery to hold onto while reading in bed :)

OT...

Can I go off topic for a moment Dill..?

To tell you I absolutely love your threads.
You are one of the reasons this place rocks so hard.

Your friendship since I first arrived here has been a blast.
Fantastic..

(I mean who else around here knows who Throbbing Gristle is?)

Dhalgren - what a nice thing to say... thank you so much!

I try and have fun and post to my interests. Its interesting to see who responds to what. There's a diversity of interests, of course, and some lean toward one type of thread, and some to others. I think about the only thing we all have in common is a love of sex!

Speaking of sex... THROBBING GRISTLE! Oh baby!!! *grin*
