A friend of mine told me this story, supposedly it is on the web somewhere, if I find the link I will post it here....

A Park Ranger in Alaska came across a very large Grizzily in a remote area.....the grizzily charged him forcing him to fire his high powered rifle.....he emptied his magazine into the bear whose charge stopped literally at the rangers feet......this bear when standing on its hind legs towered over 14 feet....on all fours the head stood at 7 feet...... his paws were huge apparently there are photos somewhere of the ranger holding up one of his paws, on closer examination the bear had three other bullets in him where it was later discovered he had killed and partially devoured a hunter who had shot him.

My word on this is Yikes!.......this bear could stand on his hind feet and look OVER a one story ranch style house......

Now up to now the Polar bear is recorded as the largest Bear......I think this one will take the record..

Urban Legend?.........I will try to find out....so far a brief search came up empty.

The photos below match a description given to me.....
this bear was taken in a hunt in 2001
check out the size of his paw WoW!

The bears are all around my house...I'm scared to walk my dog at night. My one consolation ...they are black bears, not grizzlies or browns.:)

I dunno Cookie, a bear's a bear and bigger then me! I think I'd be a bit paranoid of walking my dog at night too. I mean its not like its a warm and cuddly thing like Pooh or Yogi, is it?

-kym- Not your average bear Boo Boo :D

Black bear are smaller than grizzlies and brown bear and not as agressive. The biggest one I've seen this year is about 350 pounds. I just use common sense...I'm not taking any chances, like you said...a bear's a bear.:)

Well.......350 pounds is a lot more than me, so I'm all for giving them a wide berth. (pardon the pun) ;)

-kym- 350 pounds, is that a bare bear??

Black bears make me uneasy, Grizzly Bears scare the hell out of me........it is why I am uneasy about swimming in the ocean, I hate placing myself in the food chain.....I have seen too many big sharks on the prowl this part of the state the water is not clear either......not that I would want to see something coming at me.....sheesh!

We do not have many bears in central florida and the bears here tend to be smaller than their northern cousins....I think the Florida Black Bear may be a subspecies

kym I think your link above is not working......

Cookie I think bears are scared of dogs aren't they?

He..he.....hey if I take my clothes off I would be a bare bear sort of.....a little lighter....almost as fuzzy.....as my little boy says...."Daddy is fuzzy! Mommy is big and soft!"(you can bet mommy loved hearing that one especially followed by..."Mommy is big, big and soft!" This child certainly has inherited my lack of discretion. Not that I would blurt such a thing out.....at least not these days in my older wisdom:) )

I only know black bears JR but yes they are scared of dogs. I have heard the only way they would attack a dog is if the dog cornered them or was near their cubs.

John - the story is true and i have seen the pictures. If I can find the link again I will post it. It was huge and well you will see for yourself.

There you go, yikes! it is big.....11 feet is still big for grizzly bear, I think the average height standing is usually 7 to 10 feet tall.

Thank you silkynsmooth......

Just a bump for the bear.......

This story is true according to my friend, I should have the link soon and will post it......however when I described these photos to him.....he thought it was the same bear...........Think about it....11 feet from front claw tip to front claw tip......divide that in half........with its head down this bear would have been around five feet tall on all fours add a couple of feet for the neck and head and you have 7 feet tall on all fours.........
