A gift-card is the same as cash!

At least a gift card shows you went through a little effort. I don't give cash because I don't want to contribute to bad habits like weed or cigarettes.

Stocking stuffers I buy gift cards and lottery tickets. One year my cousin won $2500 on a scratch off. My luck one of my lottery tickets recipients will win millions of dollars and I will be kicking myself in the ass for not keeping it for myself even though I will be happy for the fucker.

I hate shopping so much, and I can't stand it even more at the holidays. I do gift cards and lottery tickets. I've also done home made cookie baskets in the past, but I don't really bake anymore.

I got news for ya, a person who wants weed or cigarettes will just use the gift card for groceries and the cash for the smoke. Nothing stands between a pot head or addict and their stuff. Although most pot heads will go without for a few days if they really have to. A smoker won't. They can be as bad as a crackhead.
And yes, I'm generalizing but smokers are some of the worst addicts I've ever seen.

It's cash with a straight jacket.

Which ain't a bad idea.

Well, if you give gift cards to a grocery store...

I give gift cards, but only to stuff they wouldn't otherwise buy. My brother is a bit of a slob. So he's getting a gift card to a higher-end clothing store, enough for a decent suit. My sister is a poor student who complains she can't afford to go places, so she gets a gift card to a travel agency, enough for a weekend getaway of her choice.

I guess they could sell the damn things and buy weed, but then I'd know.

I am way ahead of you sista. JC Penny's don't sell cigs.

There's a website here where you can sell or trade gift cards.
Apparently it does a roaring trade, more selling than trading.
Can't for the life of me remember the name of the site tho

That said, I never give gift cards - if I really can't think of anything, then I buy charity (wells, goats, sewing machines, etc).

I tried giving cash in a card to a widow a few months ago.

Never, ever again.

Never been so humiliated in my life.

There's one here as well. It's called, eBay.

You should give free sex to homeless men. It makes you feel all warm and mushy inside.

Cash is king. What good is $2.92 left on a gift card at some stores? Either it encourages a person to spend more on something they don't really want, and in many cases, can't afford. Or, the money is left unused on the card - clear profit for the store. I'd rather have that money ( which I received tax free) working for me.

Or maybe as Liar said, Lazy and proud of it.

Just think of the good karma from giving away a million bucks! We'd have to change you to "Saint Very_Bad_Man"

I am okay with gift cards. The past several years I have received many gift cards for Home Depot and Lowes. At least people know where I shop the most.:)

I must have bitched a lot about gas prices this year, I got 3 gas cards this week already.

I gave most of my grandkids cash this year. They can buy what they want. Two of them got cash plus a gift.

I like gift cards. Last year I got GCs for Home Depot, and theyre handy when I've depleted my allowance but need something.
