So he had finally made it. After the years of studying to become a professor he had finished his studies. Even better he had somehow managed to land himself a job straight away at the University of California. Sure he'd had some luck, he'd been recommended by his own lecturer, but he wasn't going to pass up this chance. That didn't mean he wasn't going to be nervous as hell about it. He'd gone through all the necessary work to get himself prepared for his first day, prepped his opening lectures and met all of his colleagues. The colleagues had been exactly what he expected, study old professors for the most part, not how he wanted to end up and certainly not how he intended to start. The hardest part was still to come though, he still had to meet his students. He was taking on a couple of small classes from 2nd and 3rd years of their courses but the one he was really worried about was his class of first year students, and no surprise, they were his first class.

Jonny stood at the front of the class he had been assigned, it held about 50 individual desks and was currently fairly plain, something he planned to remedy in time. On his desk next to him he had a class list for his first years with some pictures to help him with the names. He looked down at the faces, most not looking much younger than his own. That was what worried him, he wasn't as old as most profs, but he couldn't let it bother him too much. He heard a bell ring and stared at the door, waiting for the students to arrive.

Melanie Lawrence
19 years old
College Student - History Major
5'10''
Long red hair, grey eyes

Melanie was the first to walk into the classroom. She quickly sat down in a seat near the front and lied her bag down beside her feet.

It was her second class of the day and so far college was a disappointment. The professor had looked like he was older then the building and for being around so long he really didn't know much about history or at least he couldn't remember much anymore.

She was smart, she had been one of the top of her class in high school and she planned on keeping up with her grades even now.

Melanie watched the man sitting at the front of the room, he looked way to young to be the professor and he was actually quite good looking.

Jonny watched as all of these bright young faces, and some who looked more than a little stoned, filed their way into his classroom. A few people caught his eye, tattoos here, piercings there and one girl with bright red hair who brushed past him before he had a chance to really see much. As he'd expected, a lot of the people didn't look that much older than him, and he could feel his nerves bubbling up again, but he took a swig of water and composed himself ready to speak as the final students took their places.

With everyone seated, Jonny moved forward. "Welcome to Ancient Roman History" He started "I'm Professor Carter, though that sounds weird, so how about we stick to calling me Jonny". He looked around the class, hoping that they could all hear him, that they were all going to give him a chance. They seemed to be paying attention so he continued. "I'm just going to call a quick register to find out your names, when I call you, I want you to stand up and tell me something about yourself, when we're done, I'll tell you about me".

He went through his list, trying to note all of the students. The tattooed girl was called Emma and she was apparently into heavy metal, one of the stoned looking guys was called Derek and his voice confirmed the fact that he was high. He paused to clear his throat before continuing "Have we got Melanie Lawrence anywhere?" He asked.

Melanie sighed standing up "well I think this is a waste of our time..." She said carefully watching him "by the time we get through the entire class most of our class time will be at least halfway over with but that's not really what you want to know. I think believe its silly to call this class Ancient Roman History when well not only be learning about the Romans but also the ancient Greeks since its unavoidable to discuss one without the other." She said before sitting down and flipping open he notebook "you didn't name the class though so that's not really your fault..."

Jonny was almost struck dumb as the redhead girl from earlier stood up and came out with a scathing reply. Here he was on his first day, nervous as hell, and on her first day she's speaking as if she runs the place. He took a couple of seconds to compose himself before replying.

"Well to your first point Miss Lawrence, while I agree that this activity has taken up a sizeable chunk of the session, I feel it's important given the amount of time we will be spending together, that we get to know each other. For example I know now that you are someone who will happily speak her mind, which may stand you in good stead for the year". He stopped for a breath, watching her as he did and realising for the first time that she was a pretty girl, not just her hair was eye catching. "Now onto your second point. You are correct that I didn't name the course, and also correct that the Greeks are inextricably linked with the Romans, however the course is most definitely aimed at focussing on Romans, and I assure you that if the papers you write for me don't reflect this focus, you will fail." As he continued to watch her, he tried to read her face but he couldn't work it out. "But I don't want to waste the class' time with this discussion so I'm going to move on, but could you stay behind at the end to see me please Melanie". He finished and awaited her reply.

"Okay..." Melanie said turning her focus away from him and looking down at her notebook. She couldn't believe she was in trouble already on the first day.

For the rest of the class she stayed focused on writing her notes, only glancing at him every once in awhile. She payed careful to everything he said and she was quite surprised at how knowledgeable he was, he couldn't possibly be as young as he looked.

Jonny smiled as Melanie quietly accepted his instruction, glad that she had not spoken up about it or argued any further. This allowed him to continue on with the lecture he had planned without any further disruption, and if anything, he had gained a little bit of confidence from his encounter with Melanie.

All the way through his lecture he toyed with the idea of letting the class know about his age. He knew it shouldn't matter, that he had been given the job because he was good at what he did, but something inside him told him that the class might not see it that way. He wasn't exactly sure what they would think but for the moment he did not want to find out, so he kept a lid on it.

He had finally come to the end of his first lecture and to his relief, nobody had fallen asleep and they all seemed fairly interested in what he'd had to say so he was going to count this as a success. "Well guys, that's the end of the session and I want to thank you for listening to me, I feel like this is going to be a good year for all of us" He said, looking around the class "You can all go, except you of course Miss Lawrence".

Melanie quickly placed her notebook back into her bag before placing it over her shoulder and standing up. "What did you want to see me about?" She asked walking to the front of the room and standing in front of him. Nervously she fiddled with a few strands of her hair while she looked around the room "I didn't mean to cause a problem earlier... I guess I'm just used to speaking my mind..."

Jonny watched as she packed up her stuff and slowly made her way down towards him. He couldn't help but notice how nervous she looked as she made her way down. He wasn't even sure why he had asked her to stay behind, was he trying to stamp his authority, to set up some ground rules, or did he have some other interest in her. He couldn't work himself out right now.

He listened as she apologised for earlier. Well maybe apologised was the wrong word, it was more of an explanation. He made her wait, watching her think about what he might want to say before he replied.

"I just wanted to see you to straighten out some ground rules Melanie" He started "I am perfectly fine with you speaking your mind, doing that will be a good thing for you on this course, but I'm your professor and theres a certain level of respect I'm going to require in how you speak to me". He let her think about his words a little before he carried on,"I know I'm not that much older than you, but theres got to be a level of respect, understand?"

"I didn't mean any of it to be disrespectful." Melanie said sitting her bag down on his desk "To be honest so far you're one of the better teachers at this school it seems. I don't care about your age..." For the first time that day she took a really good look at him noticing that he was actually pretty attractive. She quickly looked away from him as her face flushed slightly.

"Okay Melanie, I'll take your word that it wasn't meant in disrespect, you don't seem like a disrespectful girl". He says, looking into her pretty grey eyes as he speaks. From a distance it is her hair which stands out, but up close those eyes seem to draw you in.

He allows himself a little smile as she compliments him and is reassured by what she says about his age "to be honest with you Melanie, I've been very nervous about my age, I'm 27 so I guess I'm not the typical college professor, but I definitely appreciate the comments". As he finishes he notices the colour in her cheeks, why is she blushing "are you alright Melanie, you look a little flushed?"

"Yeah...I'm fine..." Melanie said touching her cheek "it's just a little warm in here. Isn't it? Maybe it's just me." She sad nervously as she adjusted her skirt. "I guess I should go... Unless you had more to talk about..."

"I don't feel too warm Melanie" I say as I stand up. I move close to you and put my hand on your cheek, feeling the warmth in it. "You do feel a little warm though, maybe you should get some fresh air". I move my hand from your cheek now and step back to lean against my desk again.

"there's nothing else that I have to say that can't wait, you should go and enjoy the rest of your day" I say with a smile.

"You're right, that would probably be a good idea.." She said hoping he didn't notice her blush even more when he touched her cheek "I'll see you for class tomorrow." Melanie reached behind him grabbing her bag accidentally brushing her hand against his pants. "Sorry." She said rushing out of the classroom.

He noticed the flushing in her face increase as his hand touched her face. He wasnt quite sure what she was so nervous about but he was very aware of it happening.

He stood as she spoke and suddenly felt a brush across his pants as she reached past him. Despite himself he could feel himself getting hard as her hand touched him, even if it was through his pants. He watched her rush out, his eyes fixed on her ass, until he realised he was her teacher and shouldn't be thinking this. She left and he took a deep breath, trying to compose himself

Melanie just kept walking until she reached her dorm room. She tossed her bag on top of her desk before laying down on her bed. What was she thinking, yes he was attractive but he was her professor. As she lay there she tried not to think about him but her mind kept wandering back, thinking about his eyes, his smile, the bulge she had felt through his pants.

'Wow what a start' he thought to himself as he sat in the now empty classroom, mulling over what had just happened. He took a deep drink of his water and sat back down in his chair to compose himself. He didn't have any more classes for the day, thank god, he wasn't quite sure that he could take it after what had just happened. He knew that he shouldn't be looking at Melanie in that way, but he was equally sure that he wasn't the only one feeling that, he was sure that there was something coming from her too. He started to pack up his things to head out of the classroom, deciding that whatever was going on, he would only find out more when it came to his next class with them tomorrow.

Eventually Melanie fell asleep, still thinking about him.

She woke up early the next morning and tried to just focus on her first class as she started getting ready for the day. After taking a quick shower she got dressed in jeans and a tight fitting sweater. Still having some time left she finished her assignments from the day before and then left for her first class which was just as boring as the day before.

When he got home, Jonny allowed himself a small drink to reward himself for completing his first day. At least he told himself it was a reward, yet deep down he knew he was just trying to forget what had happened with Melanie today. He did a little work afterwards before heading to bed, trying his best not to think about it.

When he woke in the morning, he stood up and instantly noticed the bulge in his shorts. He couldn't remember what or who he had dreamed about, but he had a pretty good idea. He shook his head at himself and jumped into an ice cold shower, amazed at how he still hadn't managed to shake this off. Once he was out, he got himself dressed and headed out to work. The day started well, he met his 2nd year class and everything had gone much as he planned. At the end of the lesson, he dismissed them and decided he would go for a walk. He had an hour before Melanie's class were due so he set off walking around the campus, familiarising himself with the area.

When her first class was over Melanie decided to sit at one of the benches outside, not too far from her next class. She took out her text book starting to read ahead, still thinking about yesterday in the back of her mind. It wasn't long before she had lost all focus on what she was reading, she couldn't stop thinking about him.

Jonny strolled casually around the campus, acknowledging a few people he saw as he went. He found where the gym was, noting this so that he could use it after class today, having brought his stuff with him this morning. He also found a couple of little coffee shops and cafes on the campus which he decided he would pay visits too sometime later too. He thought to himself how this was doing a good job of keeping his mind of Melanie, and then cursed himself for bringing her back to mind. He stopped and stared around at the campus, taking it in and not quite believing yet that he works here.

As he started to head back in the direction of his building, he suddenly noticed a girl with red hair sat on a bench nearby. 'Great' He thought to himself, he did not need to see Melanie alone right now with the way his mind was. He told himself that he wasn't going to say anything to her as he continued walking, getting closer to her now.

Melanie couldn't stop thinking about him, soon she started trying to imagine what he looked like under the clothes, just making things worse. She still had her book laid out on her lap just staring at it. When she finally looked up she saw him walking her way, at first she thought she was just imagining it but he kept getting closer. She just sat there unsure if she should say anything or not.

Jonny saw her look up towards him and knew that she had seen him. That meant he couldn't just walk past and ignore her, as much as he might have wanted to. Or did he want to, he wasn't quite sure what he felt right now. As he got close, he noticed that she was reading a book which had been on the reading list for his class. He slowed his stride just short of her, deciding that he will just say a quick greeting.

"Hello Melanie, I see you're working hard on your reading already, I'm very impressed" He said with a smile, looking at her and trying not to notice how she looked.

"Thanks... It's actually a pretty good book." She said putting it back in her bag and getting up "I thought I would head to class early, that way I don't get lost reading and end up late." Melanie said walking beside him just close enough that they weren't quite touching "if that's alright with you.."

"That sounds like a very good idea Melanie, and of course I don't mind, its always nice to have good company" He said, though inside he knew it wasn't a good idea for him to be walking with her. Being a young professor, he knew rumours were likely to arise if he was seen to be too close to any of the students, and he guessed that this could be seen by some as too close already.

He noticed right away how close she was walking to him, any closer and they would have been holding hands. He was close enough that he could smell the subtle perfume she was wearing, and notice even more the brightness of her hair. Everything about her seemed to intrigue him as they walked quietly along together, each lost in their own thoughts.
