If for some reason, you could only have one lover for the rest of your life, and you could only choose from the options below, which would you pick? (Elaborating your reasons would also be welcomed...)

Note: This selection assumes that all of the options are fully compatable, caring, and well-matched to you in every other way.

I picked brilliant with words and wit but can't perform sexually at all - then we'd get the worlds top doctor onto it!!! :D

Seriously, personality is more important than sex...perhaps we would be able to make an arrangement in that department anyway!!!

Darlin' ... you forgot a choice.

None of the above.

*slips out lurk mode*

Picked average all around.

I don't care about the perfect body.

I can hold conversations and enjoy life with someone of average intelligence, as much as I do enjoy discussing things like history and politics from time to time...

Couldn't take someone who couldn't perform sexually at all though. Unfortunately things like that lead to sexual frustration, and while it's a nice thought that sex isn't important, for the rest of your lives...I just don't think I could go decades with a partner without being intimate with them. I'd end up giving into temptation and cheating because my body was craving the intimacy it couldn't get with my partner.

And all that said... /lurk

A fantastic lover who cannot speak or write.

Where's the downside?

True enough. I suppose I was making an assumption that most of the folks active on a BDsM forum would be more inclined to have a lover than not, and it was probably a flawwed assumption. (Admittedly, it's the nature of assumptions.)

For my part, I ended up selecting one who is excellent with words but cannot function sexually, though the difficulty of the decision was more in that I believe that those of average- or below- average intelligence can be educated/enlightened, whereas the other choices seem to imply a permanent condition. (In the case of "Cannot function, I was kinda imagining a parapalegic, for some reason...)

Still, I can get myself off better than anyone I know, plus a Dom who's perfectly compatable with me would never need to touch me to control me utterly. Sure, I'd miss the Pirate/damsel scenes, and the freaky-chair-sex, but nothing gets me hot like a well turned phrase.

Edited to add: That, plus I said he/she couldn't function sexually. They'd still have hands, and lips and tongues, (probably very well-developed ones, at that!)

AA you don't actually state what your choice is...hiding your light again? or leaving us guessing...again?! lol

we speak telepathically and wouldn't be lovers if we weren't communicating at the *grin* soul level

I'll take average. For the simple reason that when you start at average you have room for growth. Life ain't static, folks.

If you start with perfection, there's only one way to go, and that's down.

I'll take average, with room to go UP, thank you very much *grin*.

IF i had to be stuck to them for life.. average. But thats like sayin if you went to jail.. who would you pick to be your cell mate?.. doesn't matter how good the sex was if outside of the bedroom you couldn't stand the person.. and it would deteriorate the sex life at some point... I for one would be disgusted with myself for bedding someone I couldn't hold an intelligent conversation with. But then I think most women think like that. tha nature of breeding and instincts and genes.. and all that stuff..

And I'de be willing to bet one of my favorite body parts AA's just yanking your chain for being somewhat of a romantic.

One who is brilliant with wit and words, but who cannot function sexually at all.

Given the limited options, that person would just fill my needs the best!

I chose brilliance of mind... sex can be had... brilliance and wit don't come along every day.

I want

I want to be able to look across the table into the eyes of somebody I desire, like, love and finally die in their arms when it is my time.

The only thing I know about love is that it lasts in duration and intensity and its the only reason to be alive.

As selfish as i am i chose a fantastic lover who cannot speak or write. Honestly though there are other ways to communicate. it doesn't mean that they are not a very intelligent person who can sign... Besides i think that to be truely fantasic inthe sack you need to understand and truely care for and want to please your partner. i would rather have someone that i could communicat on a more deeper and intimate level with.

I think what escapes some people is that there is so much more to sex than just the act itself.... just because some one cannot perform the act, doew not mean that they cannot please or fulfill their partner.

i agree that there is more to sex than the act itself. However when i read the options i interpreted the one who is brilliant with wit and words, but who cannot function sexually at all. As no sex or sex acts period. i just would not be able to cope with zip.

Although the fantastic lover who can't write or speak... i don't see why you couldn't use sign language or find another means of communication.

What are your thoughts?

And yet...

My thought is, it's fascinating which blanks which people choose to fill in, and which ones they take as written, uninterpreted. Several people felt that can't function sexually meant genitally. I interpreted that someone of average intelligence could become more educated, given the right incentive. You were the first to suggest a loophole on the 'can't speak/write' option, (the one I eventually chose myself, btw, ***Edit due to Brainfart: No, I lie. I chose Couldn't function sexually. Sorry- I inhaled too much hydrolic grease this afternoon- blame my Master. *S* ) and yet, specificly deny the option of such interpretation of a different option. Not sure what that actually means exactly, but it's terribly interesting, don't you think?

It is very interesting how each of us have our own interpretations of the same options.

Yes it is interesting & I was just thinking the same thing when I got to your post & read it.

Give me intelligence & wit, my subbiness works best in my mind, but I read it to mean that the sex part was ordinary, not non existant, so I thought well, technique could always be improved. However, without the intelligence there is no imagination & without that, for me, there is no sex worth having.

Notice my take on the poll answers. I also interpreted them "my" way, thinking that the ability to speak & write equalled intelligence & wit, not a larynx & arm deficient individual.

That's so cool!

Hmmm. I think we might be onto something here. Anybody think there's a pattern to the way each of us is interperting the options given?

i for one latched on to the fantastic sex because that is somethign that i am currently missing along with a sence of emotional intamacy. To me a person who could not talk or write, but had great sex could acomplish what i felt i needed most. I guess you could say this is sort of like a written rorshank (sp?) test

How anyone else feel about how their answers reflect their lives?

Well, like you lacking intimacy, I'm feeling a lack of wordplay and deep conversation. Plus, I do realize that a good 80% of my libido is totally inside my head. But I've known that all along...
