A different world

This idea just popped in my head when I was trying to fall asleep, it's a bit of a mix between George Orwell's 1984 and Command & conquer: Generals (even though I never played that game) and I'm not quite sure what to do with it.

Somewhere in the near future, the world is split in 3 vast countries: America (North and South America), Japan (all Asia) and Australia (Australia, New Zealand and the rest of Oceania). Europe has been flooded and Africa is a complete wasteland due to these wars and its inhabitants have fled to one of the three countries.

All three countries have slowly been 'purified' into three territories with each a different, single gender and a single role in the war: America is all male, very religious and all about big guns, tanks, missiles, etc. Asia is all fully-functioning hermaphrodite, with feminine appearances, a semi-neutral stance and a vast and high-tech network of spies and gathers and provides information to both sides. Australia is all female and fights mostly with guerilla and terrorist tactics: covert assaults and operations, infiltration and suicide bombings.

I'd like to hear your opinions on issues that might arise and how to write a story with this as the background.

I think really the first question is how do you create more of each? I mean while I might enjoy watching two men have sex, they aren't getting any kids. Same with two shemales or two women so you're looking at a dwindling critical resource the way you have it.

I guess you could go the easy route of cloning, but that could be too far-fetched and I also don't think extremely religious America would approve of that. I did mention Asia being the supplier of information and perhaps also technology to either side, so why not supply eggs, sperm or even surrogate mothers as well? They are fully functioning hermaphrodites after all (that would work best for this setting).
Another solution could be (as currently being explored in the Amazon-thread) to have one side capture a bit of land from the other and using its inhabitants to procreate.

They rape prisoners of war? They have vast repositories of frozen eggs/sperm and artifical wombs? Cloning? They've been biologically altered so that it is possible? They've achieved immortality, so that reproduction isn't a problem?

Not neccesarily; "religious" doesn't have to mean Modern Day Evangelical Fundies. Keep in mind that in order for a society to be all-male, they either have to be using some form of scientific intervention to prevent female babies, which is a no-no, or killing them, which as an even bigger no-no.

Not to mention that they'd have to be more relaxed about homosexuality.

Well, I wouldn't mind other people using this as a background for their stories.
Although I think that you would be blown up well before setting foot on any land and you'd never see them.

Instead of the entire country or whatever being just one sex, all sexes are present, they just don't join the military.

It's not hard to restrict something to just one group, just a question of the courts saying it's fine. Perhaps in America way more men are born than women, opposite in Australia, and Japan I guess what I said and it's run by a transgender and makes everyone look like a woman in uniform.

Yes I am very lazy, but not in this; I don't want an easy way out, I like the premise of this world too much (it's MY idea after all ).
It's also been a very long time since I had any (good) ideas for stories.

Instead of a country being "all male" (for example), it could be that only males are allowed to be citizens, have jobs, own property, etc. The females must stay naked in the basement and do no more than have babies.

In the "all female" countries, the males would be kept locked in the basement, only used for sex when their female owners decided they wanted to get pregnant.

Superficially, it would be just as you described! Not that I'd want to live there, LOL!!! Morgana

I could handwave it and say it's an alternate universe this happens in. That way I can go around the problems that arise with the existence of just three extremely large countries and its single-gendered inhabitants.
Aliens could also be an answer, but I don't really like to take that route.

Of course you can also do a future time thingy, think something like Demolition Man where there is no sex or touching. Children are all test tube babies, which is probably better than it sounds.

They are developing sperm from women, nothing to say they can't create ovum from sperm or something.

Course then you have one country where there are pregnant women and the other two are full of men/transgendered raised in vats. I admit that is having a certain giggle factor.
