A day in the stocks

Being locked in pillory stocks is probably a very humiliating and painful type of punishment. But that is exactly what they were built to do; humiliate the offender. Pillories were a wood frame work on a post usually set in the middle of a town or village with the offenders head and arms or legs sticking out for everyone to see. It probably goes under the category of cruel and unusual punishment nowadays. There are still some fans out there who derive sexual pleasure and like to use them for fun and games. Check out http://www.hiddendungeon.com/pillory.htm where they are sold for a couple of hundred dollars. You can read about being locked in pillory stocks at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stocks.

Google...a wonderful tool. Try it!

To start, a full day would likely be too much for a person if not given breaks. At least the half-standing-height, bent-at-the-waist kind would be. Standing like that puts a lot of stress on certain joints, and even with the ability to move around that gets painful pretty fast. If you DO go for longer you need to watch the person to make sure they dont collapse and choke on the neck part of the stocks. That being said, the stocks leave pretty much everything exposed, I think anything is possible.

I think pleatedskirt was asking for a scenario of how people would envision an experience in stocks.

I haven't given it much thought, personally. But I did get my picture taken in stocks at the renaissance festival. :)
