He is hurt in the battle, but manages to crawl into a ditch and get forgotten. He is found days later by a saucy French peasant, who nurses him back to health. Including plenty of physical therapy.

I'm having trouble with imagining any erotic appeal during the Normandy invasion. However, American-French war romances have shown up in movies. There's George Peppard and somebody in The Victors (1963), but he leaves her to go back to his unit.

There is also a small romance in Fury between one of the tankers and a French girl...atleast I think she was French...maybe German. Not sure

Maybe she was Belgian? I got The Victors wrong. Peppard takes up with a Polish woman played by Melina Mercouri. I don't know what she's doing in France, but you are doing pretty well if you get a shot at Mercouri. As she looked around that time:

Actually, the whole film has a pretty nice cast of ladies for a war movie: Senta Berger, Romy Schneider, Elke Sommer, Jeanne Moreau, Rosanna Schiaffino. The latter, who was better known in Italy than the United States.

If you really wanted to meet some friendly French ladies, a good time would have been during the liberation of Paris. That was one time when it actually may have been fun to be in the military. I like that chick with the blue skirt and the sub-machine gun.

Right on the beach? Certainly not. D+1, inland a few miles, still within shellfire and such? Unlikely. Given time and a safe area? Very possible and certainly worth a tale or two.
IIRC, the history book Is Paris Burning? mentions a US Army unit involved in liberating the city. They pitched tents somewhere in town; the next morning, an officer reported seeing each pup tent holding a GI and a sleepy young Frenchwoman. Haven’t seen my copy lately, but will check if I can find it.

I think 8th Air Force would be a better subject. They penetrated the Motherland more deeply, and all released their loads at the same time.

Good point. Also RAF and commonwealth forces, plus Free forces from France, Czech, Poland, etc. The British ran MI-9, its mandate including setting up escape lines for escaped POWs and downed aircrew. Those lines were essentially Resistance members, including women.

Just a reminder: wherever soldiers go, there are prostitutes. Some armies have had official or semi-official brothels. Do the ladies like men in uniform? No, they like the money, and there are tens of thousands of guys away from the restrictions of home with cash on hand.

Very true. Not only liberating but invading armies also seem to find willing local ladies - there are tales galore of retribution being visited on local "sexual collaborators" at the end of occupations.

That happened many times too, but I was referring to women who did it in exchange for money. According to Robert Graves, who fought with the British Army in World War I, the French hookers were so busy that they got exhausted after a while.
The Soviet Army was quite brutal to female civilians in the areas they occupied.
