When I first had this idea it was a joke, but I think it would work.
A combination wrestling/stock car league.
Granted I’m not the world’s greatest NASCAR fan. But you only have to watch sports highlights to know that about two or three times a year, there is a major fight after a wreck or a race. I’d like to get together about 25 drivers/wrestlers, have them race 20 times or so during the summer. So as to not compete with NASCAR, they would race on Friday night, and wrestle Saturday night. Before the race Friday, they could be handed a microphone and get the crowd all fired up like they do in wrestling. And of course there would be fights during the race in the pits, after wrecks, and after the race. Then Saturday it would move indoor for the wrestling matches. You’d have to get a TV contract to survive. I doubt if any of the major speedways would get behind it until it was successful. But there are plenty of smaller tracks that could draw 5000 to 10,000 people for the race, and venues for wrestling that could seat another couple of thousand. The racing, like in NASCAR, wouldn’t be fixed (wink), but of course the wrestling would be. (Sorry, Todd) Some of the puritans of the NASCAR fans would be insulted and stay away, but even they would admit if you added up the total number of teeth at a NASCAR race and divided by the number of people, you might get an average of 15 or 20 teeth per person. And the wrestling fans who are race fans, ( pretty much synonymous) would absolutely eat it up.
