I'm relatively new at this forum business, though I've been watching on the sidelines for quite some time.

Developing a character is a integral process, I'm sure. At the moment my friend (whose ID shall be in the aforementioned) and myself have decided to start a poll for a new and exciting RP topic.

Probably pirate ship, the Barbary pirates during the Napoleonic Wars would be quite a good setting. North African pirates abducted and enslaved more than one million Europeans between 1530 and 1780 in a series of raids which depopulated coastal towns from Sicily to Cornwall. Thousands of white Christians were seized every year to work as galley slaves, labourers and concubines for Muslim overlords in what is today Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Libya.

Wow, that was embarrasing.
I'll find how to delete my quadruple posts..
In the meantime, I have the tallied results:

A ren faire lost by a land slide.. Medieval times recieved 7 votes.. And a Pirate ship (captives included) won by one vote. ^_^

Upon another revelation, I guess my poll was a bit silly, seeing as it's quite possible to do both. For one, pirates are not realistic in modern day-- and two, the ship has to land sometime or another, why not have it be in a medieval setting when we do?

If everyone approves of such, (starting on a pirate ship first, then to an archaic realm afterwards) I would politely ask for a few of us to put our heads together to comprise some sort of.. basis of the culture and atmosphere of this pirate ship, as Vibro Repairman suggests.

Opinon

Nice to meet you all. I suppose since I am one of the originators of this idea I should post an opinon or two as well. Unfortunately, I'm not too experienced with forums of this nature. At the moment my opinon is limited to thinking we should be set on a Caribian pirate ship rather than a Spanish Maine ship. More pilaging and captives and less sea battles. (Although, swashbuckling would be kind of interesting.) I'm going to have to look around a bit inorder to form a more usefull opinon on how this should progress from this point on.

Ivory, if you wish modern conviences in your story modern day pirates are not only possible they exist both in the Caribbean Sea in the 70's and 80's when pleasure craft were taken to use in smuggling drugs and also still exist in SE Asia off the islands and some of the coast of the mainland too where crafts of all kinds are still pirated and where white slavery still flourishes.

Now all we have to do is decide if we want modern conviences or not as the first decision to make and second the locale once that's dediced. Asia where there have been pirates for centuries, the Mediterrian off Europe and Africa, Europe in the Atlantic or the Americas for the middle ages or Caribbean or SE Asia for today.

Not to mention a little thing called time travel. I do believe a ship could be swallowed by some monsoon, and then dumped in modern day Carribean sea, off the coast of an island where a renaissance festival is being taken place.
Ha ha! I am a genius!!!


Carribean pirates sound best. We should ask for a single ship, with a single crew to start... maybe a group of pirates after a big score of treasure, and then come up with obstacles, and maybe even another ship of rival pirates later on.
And, of course, the british navy... can't have a pirate ship without some one chasing them.
