On another thread people have started listing the words they can never spell correctly the first time.

Accommodate is one that I just can't type without stopping to think first.

What are y'all's?

Renaissance.

Which is a real bitch, when my fantasy novels are through Renaissance Alliance Publishing!

I also have instinctive glitches with any words that start 'ch' (because I then reflexively add 'ristine' to spell my name).

Sabledrake

Whiz, bang, whoosh, pow . . .

Onomatopoetic . . . gets me every time!

Presence. So much so that I nearly misspelled it there. I always end up writing prescence. It's not that hard a word and considering I can spell floccinaucinihilipilification without looking in a dictionary, it seems a bit weird.

However the most tragic thing is that my word processor autocorrects prescence to the wrong word and I haven't got around to changing it yet. So if you see any of my stories with 'standing in his prescience' then I'm not making an obscure reference to Paul Atreides.

I have about a fifty-fifty chance of spelling lesbain correctly.

Paul Atreides - The protagonist of Dune. Paul is the son of Duke Leto Atreides and the heir to the House of the Atreides. At the beginning of the novel, Paul is fifteen years old. He has been trained from birth to fulfill the role of duke, and he is adept at combat and strategic thinking. Paul is also a quiet, thoughtful, and observant young man. His mother, Jessica, taught him the ways of the Bene Gesserit, a group that practices magic—the Bene Gesserit, who are all female, are often called witches. Paul is not overly tall or muscular, but he is strong and quick. Among the Fremen, Paul has had two names: Usul, which means strength, and Muad'Dib, which means mouse.

Damn straight MG. Never pretty much sums it up, but misses out the point I was referring to. Paul Atreides become Emperor of the Universe by seeing into the future and predicting what to do.

However the author Frank Herbert liked the word prescience. A lot. So it gets a lot of mentions in the book.

Okay, type it again so that you can prove your point.

yeppers

Same as Arthur, clumsey great male fingers on a delicate keyboard results in a lot of editing out typo's rather than spelling mistakes.

I'm not perfect though I do struggle with a few big words, and little one's sometimes.

pops.............:)

Nope, just one. Send me a better picture.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaa... Just a newbie and you sound like every other dude on Lit. (Thanks for the 8x10, B.)

Perdita

Spelling for me has gone the way of lead pencil ciphering and slide rule play. Writing without spell check is darn near impossible.

If I'm in a rationalizing mood, I'd like to think that I'm working smarter not harder. I don't know a lot of things on purpose. Brain cells are too precious for the mundane or trivial.

Funny Arthur, good flirt. You'll have to do with the postage stamp to the left.

Perdita :)

Dear Earl,
I was just so pleased that a recognized a name from a book I read when I was about ten that I had to ask.
MG
Ps. Is Frank Herbert still dead?
Pps. Personal to AArthur: three, and the "p" is silent as in "swim"

Still dead. They did have a go at waking him up a couple of years ago, but he turned over in his grave and demanded another 5 minutes.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm still chuffed from recognising Gauche's thiotimoline reference.

Anything for you, Querida.

Another word I have to think about: apartment. Too bad I am not British, then I'd just spell flat.
