A Bullet Never Lies(Closed for Courage)

Beau smiled at his wife's easy ability to sleep whenever and where ever. He envied her that ability, but knew that she needed the sleep. He could tell how exhausted she was. He yawned himself, thinking of that, and chuckled. He decided to join her, wrapping her up in his arms a little more tightly, before dozing off himself, knowing that he would be alerted if any changes came up.

Irene let out a soft moan as a noise in the other room caught her attention. Rubbing her eyes, she glanced towards the clock on the side table and noticed that it was a few hours after they had made love. Looking over her shoulder at Beau, she gently nudged him with her elbow.

“Beau, there’s someone out there.” She whispered softly, alerting him to the fact that they weren’t alone.

Beau woke up immediately, then looked around. He kissed his wife softly to let her know that he heard her, before grabbing his pistol from the nightstand. He was happy that they had thought to keep the silencer on it.

He stood up and then went to the door, before looking through the crack. He immediately knew who it was, but wondered exactly how the person had gotten in. He turned to his wife to let her know to stay put, before he opened the door and rushed to the man, putting his pistol to the back of the man's head.

"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you now, so that the agencies leave us alone since they finally have you, Ray," he said, know that this was the man that they were after. He was surprised his software hadn't picked up the trail, but figured that using cash left a much harder trail to follow.

"Well, that depends on if you believe them or not, Beau. Either they kill me and honor their word, or kill me, and then you, or wife, and your child," Ray said. Beau groaned at this response and then pulled the pistol away.

"So they weren't being honest after all. Exactly what do we need to do then?" he asked, knowing that since it was Ray, he had had them burned for a good reason. It was most likely to save their lives. Ray had a way of looking out for those in the trade that he and Irene used to be in.

"Well, what it looks like we are going to need to do is somehow get out of here, and put that deadfall into action. The agencies don't know what it is or how to activate/deactivate it, but they are worried about it, which is why they have been waiting for you to access it on here," Ray said, motioning to the computer.

"Well, you got in, so lets get back out," Beau said, holstering his pistol and opening the door to gesture for his wife to see who the man was. He knew she'd know Ray. Every major assassin knew Ray, and knew that he didn't betray the code assassins operated under, outside of the agencies.

Irene was pulling on her clothing when Beau looked back into the room and motioned her towards him. Walking into the other room, she stopped short when she saw Ray standing there, Beau’s gun held at his side. It seemed that her husband was relaxed in the situation, telling her that he trusted Ray. She let out a little sigh, glancing back towards the man that had caused this entire mess.

“I would break your nose right now if I could.” Irene said as she moved into the room to take a seat, another tired sigh escaping her lips. “Ray, what in the hell is all this?”

"Basically it was a way for the top assassins the agencies were using to get out of the business. I heard some nasty orders were coming down the line to replace us with new talent, as they were operating at a cheaper rate. I figured we should all just get out of the business, and that was the only way I knew how," Ray said, shrugging.

Beau looked at Ray and shook his head. The man made a mess, but his sources were almost always accurate. He and Ray had been working together on several assignments when they changed plans due to what Ray said or got information on.

"What do we do now?" Beau asked, knowing they needed to get out, but beyond that, wasn't too sure anything could be done.

“If we’re not messing them currently why should they worry what we’re doing with our time?” Irene asked Ray, knowing there had to be something else the agency was after if they were luring all of them back in together.

She sat there, watching the both of them, trying to come up with a plan that would give them a chance of escape yet again. She stroked her belly, the idea suddenly coming to her as she glanced over at Beau and silently, gave him a little nod. It was best if they didn’t talk about what she was about to do. He would trust her and go with what she wanted.

“Beau.” She said softly, her hands clenching at her belly. “I think something’s wrong.” She said in an even tone, letting him know to tell the watchers outside that she was in distress.

Beau quickly understood what his wife was doing. He shifted immediately into worried husband and potential father, flinging the door open before looking at the guards, guns drawn. He slapped them aside and hauled one in, a look of fright on his face as the other guard followed.

"My wife is in pain, and you are keeping us here. Either get a doctor, or do something!" he nearly screamed, shifting behind the guards as they went to investigate. He closed the door quietly, drawing his weapon and waiting for his wife to act.

He looked at her and gave her a little nod, letting her know he was ready for whatever needed to be done, trusting her completely with the plan she had.

Irene played the part that Beau needed. She sat doubled over in the chair, crying out in pain as he went to the door and opened it, allowing the guards outside to enter. Every time a guard would get near, trying to see what was wrong with her, she would jerk in her chair to evade their hands. Clenching her belly in her hands, she panted, turning her eyes towards Beau and giving him a nod to continue on with the plan and neutralize their guard.

Beau smiled as he got the nod, screwing on another silencer. He had custom made this so that there was no sound whatsoever, only the slide working. He quickly shot the guards in the room, watching as Ray caught them.

He looked at his wife and chuckled. "She always was the smart one of the two of us," he said to Ray, who just chuckled and agreed. He moved to his wife and helped her up, before kissing her thoroughly and hugging her.

"What's next in your plan, love?" he asked, knowing she'd have everything mapped out and ready to go.

Irene smiled as she hugged Beau tightly, returning his kiss before he asked her what was next. She knew that these guards probably weren’t the only ones watching them in the hotel.

“Since they didn’t know Ray was here, he’s going to put on one of their uniforms and lead us out of here. I swear to God, Ray, if you double cross us, I will personally take you down.” She threatened, her hand smoothing over her belly as she looked towards their friend.

Beau chuckled, and then waited while Ray suited up. He was happy that he hadn't gotten blood on any of the suits. He knew from firsthand experience that it would be a messy affair if that had happened.

He hid his pistol, putting his other weapons on, knowing that the agency wouldn't question them if they were moving to get Irene help. His wife was very smart, and infinitely more cunning than the agency seemed to give her credit for being.

Irene was planning through what was going to happen when they left the room. It played out in her head, but she was unsure that they could actually pull it off.

“Beau, conceal your weapons.” Irene told him, pressing one last kiss to his lips before she motioned for Ray to open the door. “We need to make our way to the parking garage and then we’ll see what our options are from there.”

She moved to Beau’s side once his weapons were away and took his arm, ready for the act that she was going to have to put on. Once the door was open, she clutched Beau’s arm and clenched her belly, moaning in pain as she was guided from the room.

Beau quickly hid his weapons, before following after Ray, his arms around his wife. To all intents and purposes, it looked like he was supporting his wife to an ambulance. Beau chuckled at the way Ray seemed to know how to slip in and out of places.

"Into the ambulance honey," Beau said, opening the door and smiling even more as a few "old friends" were the paramedics in the ambulance. Once his wife was inside, he quickly followed her, before chuckling.

"Is this the assassin's on wheels ambulance?" he asked Toby and Judith. Both were well respected, and known to other assassins. He thought that maybe this was what Ray was trying to do, get the to echelon of assassins together to make sure they weren't wiped out by the agencies that hired them.

He looked at his wife. "What is the plan now? You know we are safe with Judith and Toby. Oh, if you didn't know, they got married right before they got out. All those double missions together seemed to bring them together," he said, getting it out in the open so that his wife knew that they were all safe together.

Irene’s heart was hammering as Beau helped her into the back of the ambulance and shut the door behind them. She recognized Toby and Judith from the agency, but she didn’t know that they were married as well. It made her feel a little better to know that there was someone else in their shoes as well.

“We need to get to a safe house and plan from there.” She said, taking a seat with a long sigh.

Her body was tense from the stress and the adrenaline that she’d been running on earlier was completely gone as she looked at Beau with a small smile. "You definitely owe me that honeymoon after all of this."

Beau chuckled as he heard what his wife said. "I think we will owe it to both ourselves once we are done. Who knows, it might end up lasting much longer than either of us planned," he said, before wrapping his arms around his wife to comfort her.

He looked at Toby and waited. He knew there was a safe house already lined up and ready to use. Toby was meticulous with his safe houses, and often had so many that no one knew about the majority of them.

He knew they'd be safe from the agency while they planned their next move. Even with all the resources, Toby was so good that he could hide from anyone. He heard the engine rolling over and felt them moving, smiling as he knew that when they would strike back, the agencies would fall, and fall hard.

Irene leaned her head back against the back of the ambulance, sighing softly as Beau wrapped his arms around her. Truth be told, she was exhausted. Little to no sleep and the stress of the situation was taking its toll. She was hungry and nervous as the adrenaline left her body.

Leaning her head against Beau’s shoulder, she glanced up at him and gave him a small smile before she allowed her eyes to close and exhaustion to take over.

Beau could see how tired his wife was, and knew that it could get much more stressful. He held her as she fell asleep, and then looked at Toby. He grinned before softly asking, "how long is the ride?"

Toby smiled and then laughed softly. "Long enough for you to join her. You look like you both need that, not just her. Take a nap with your wife while Ray and I take turns driving if we need to switch. We'll wake you when we get there," he said softly.

Beau just nodded, his eyes already closing as he waited for sleep to take him.

Irene mumbled under her breath when she felt the car rock to a stop as it finally reached their destination. She yawned, rubbing her eyes as she sluggishly woke, her belly growling in hunger. Turning to look at Beau, she gave him a smile and took his hand as he helped her out of the vehicle. They were standing in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees. It felt warm, considering they had left their home in Colorado when it was snowing.

Following Ray and Toby and Judith into the small home, she decided that their first course of action was food. She didn’t know if she could function without at least getting a snack to eat.

“Would you get me a glass of water, babe?” She asked Beau, pressing a kiss to his cheek as she excused herself to use the bathroom.

Beau smiled as he went to get a glass of water. He looked around and was happy to see that the kitchen was fully stocked. He set the glass of water on the table before diving into making dinner. He wanted something quick and simple, so decided on chicken tenders and mac and cheese. It might not have been the normal food, but he saw a lot of it, so made it.

As the noodles were cooking, he looked around. It was a small house, but it was well furnished and felt safe. He sat next to his wife and smiled before kissing her softly. "I feel safe here. At least safe enough to be able to figure out what to do next," he said.

He stood, gently pulling her with him, as he went to finish the food. After it was finally done, he started dishing it out, calling for everyone to come and get it. Once everyone had a plate, he smiled and then asked, "What should we do after we eat?"

Irene came back into the kitchen when she was finished in the bathroom, sitting at the table and taking a sip of her drink with a long, satisfied sigh. It was good to see Beau relaxed. He was at his best when he was relaxed. She knew that he was worried about his family, but he was a man that could take care of almost anything.

“I know we’ll figure out what’s best.” She said softly as he sat beside her, the food cooking and her mouth watering. “I’m so hungry I think I could eat a horse.”

She smiled at her husband as he pulled her to stand, helping to finish the food that was cooking. Once everything was finished and everyone had a plate of food, she sat next to Beau with a satisfied sigh, eating to her heart’s content.

“I think we need to take a night to relax and regroup. Then in the morning we can start on our plan of attack.” She said, helping herself to another spoonful of macaroni.

Beau looked around, seeing nods in agreement. "Okay. I also agree, and it would make sense, as my nerves are slightly frazzled," he said, grinning as he knew they were a bit worse than that. He had been on edge since Ray had gotten into the room.

He also knew he needed a shower. He ate quickly and then looked around. "I'm gonna go shower, as that will hopefully help me relax a little. After that, we can relax outside, or do whatever," he said, smiling as he squeezed his wife's hand gently.

He was pulling his shirt off as he moved towards the bathroom, not really caring that there were three people he wasn't normally naked in front of. He closed the door before pulling his pants off and stepping into the shower. The water was cold when he turned it on, but warmed up quickly. He closed his eyes and leaned against the wall, letting the water cascade down his back to help him relax.

By the time that Beau was finished with his shower, Irene was already in one of the two bedrooms of the safe house, her feet propped up to relieve her swollen ankles. She was already hard at work though, using a clean computer to see what she could gain from her sources outside of the agency.

“It looks like all of this might go a lot further then we thought.” She said as Beau stepped into the room, her eyes lifting from the screen as she let out a little sigh. “Multiple agencies have been burning agents, not just ours.”

Beau nodded, having come to that conclusion, as he dropped the towel. He grabbed a pair of boxer-briefs and slid them on, then settled down next to Irene. "I was thinking as much. It almost seems like they want to get rid of us because of our skills and what we know, right?" he said, phrasing it like a question.

He knew that there had to be something else, but he couldn't quite pin it. It all seemed to go deeper, like the agencies were driving towards one singular purpose. He knew that private military contracts were out of the picture, as those made significantly less money than the contracts the agencies took out.

"What if they are trying to stage a hostile coup of some country that is unstable, so as to have a controlling interest?" he said, and then realized how ridiculous that sounded. These agencies worked in the shadows, and a hostile coup was too glaringly obvious for their style.

“It sounds more like a hostile consolidation between themselves.” She said, letting him take the computer from where it rested on her bump. “But why cut free their top agents? We were completely loyal until the burn happened.”

Irene suddenly stopped talking, going completely still with an odd look on her face. She frowned, her brow knitting together with concern. “Beau…give me your hand.”

She whispered those words and took his hand, pulling up her shirt to press his hand to her bare belly. “I think the baby’s moving.” She whispered again, looking at him with a slow growing smile. “I think I can actually feel the peanut moving.”

Beau looked at Irene's belly, then her eyes, astonished. He pressed his face to the bump and sighed when he felt their baby moving. "This might be the best moment of my whole month, if not since we found out you were pregnant," he said, his eyes misting up.

He kissed his wife softly, letting her know how much he loved and cared for her. "You are the most amazing woman I know, and I would do anything for you," he said softly, resting his forehead against hers.

He cleared his throat and rested his hand on her belly, bringing hers to rest it over his. "I think you're right about the hostile consolidation. Now then, lets forget about that. We have a task of the utmost importance. We need to for sure pick out names!" he said with a grin.
