On the news tonight they showed a kid (14yo) that was maimed by a bomb hidden in a torch and left outside his army cadet meeting hall, this kid lost his sight (he was already blind in one eye from cancer as a child) and one hand and he said that although he was sad at losing his hand and sight he was happy it happened to him and not to one of the smaller kids at the meeting as they would have probably been killed.....that kid has got some real grit and I was just wondering if I'd have as much if I was in his place.

BTW they think the bomb was planted by the real IRA, but strangely they've not owned up to maiming a child....I wonder why........please remember that boy the next time someone from Noraid ask's for a donation.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I heard the tail end of it on the canadian news channel, just the him being thankful it was him. I have some friends there.

quick question though just to brush me up on my england english torch is a flashlight right? or something bigger?

yes thats right in England a torch is a flashlight, its another one of those old words that got a new meaning over time

As far as I'm concerned...

The Real IRA can kiss my arse, and so can ever "Irish American" in the US who channels money into this cause or has ever channeled money into the historical IRA.

While politically I'm *with* them in idealistic terms and agree that the British handling of the "Northern Ireland situation" has royally sucked, the terrorism that has resulted has had zero political impact, led to death and maiming of innocent people, and means we can't even have fucking trash bins in London.

Don't even start me on having to travel to Northern Ireland and having a British accent. It's deplorable.

I wish Americans who funded this shit had to live with bombs in their local supermarkets, bombs in their pubs, bombs on their subway system, and bombs in their television stations. And a lack of garbage cans.

Actually, what I really wish is that none of us had to live with any of this.

I thought it was a torch, I like the old stlye english words a lot more than the north americanized version of the language. Words like windscreen, waist coat, besmirched, etc.

Todd how about this one then, we call elevators "lifts" over here.

And garter belts are suspenders, trunks are boots, briefs are pants, dicks are willies, cigarettes are fags, pussies are fannies...

Isn't language great? :)

DB I think only in the last few years after the world trade tower bombings and the Oklahoma city bomb have our US friends come to understand what it's like to live with that fear.

Oklahoma. World Trade Centre. Altanta Olympics.

Three bombs in what, seven years? As opposed to three bombs every seven weeks?

I regret those incidents, but you just can't compare it. It's not the same.

no, not the same but it gave them an insight maybe and maybe it made those who where giving to Noraid second thought's

And I always wondered why people kept thinking I was from the UK. I've also heard that mastrubating is wanking.

Hmmmmmm, maybe I should change my name. Naaaaaa, not going to be a virgin again.

Yes I recall the first time I heard thatone from my college buddy from outside London. He remarked at how small our carriage ways were and why none of the building near us that was under 5 flights didn't have a lift.

I learned a lot from him, but it was a fun process, college memories.
