I first became involved in bdsm back in 2000. For me, looking back now, none of it really counted as much until seven months ago, when I became involved with my new dom. The first dom was mostly L/D. Now there are "real" things to be concerned about, like bruises. I was at my doctor's office last week, when it suddenly dawned on both of us that she may notice all the bruises on my breasts and thighs, depending on what type of exam she did. We actually wondered if she'd call the police for domestic violence. Hey, we live in a small town in the south, where most people have no clue about bdsm. Anyway, we got past that without any problems.

A few days ago, while in Atlantic City, we were suddenly faced with the reality of our lifestyle again. How were going to explain bruising when I got my breast tattooed. By the way, I am now the proud owner of a tattoo that has the bdsm symbol in the center and sun rays surrounding it. Before we even got anywhere near the A.C. boardwalk, my dom emailed the symbol to the place. When we got there, the owner was trying to look up "bdm." His wife/girlfriend, who did the tat, asked about my bruises and I told her it was from a car accident. I had one about four years ago that left my breasts bruised, so that just popped out of my mouth. Then during the tattooing, she asked about bdsm and what it meant. I told her it was our lifestyle. My dom said it had to do with a dominant/submissive lifestyle. She repeated, "submissive" and said nothing else.

I was actually surprised that the guys at the tattoo parlor didn't know about bdsm, since they had so many drawings of naked women in chains. lol Anyway, we talked about it afterwards and decided it we handled it fairly well. We weren't sure how they'd react, if we shared too much. Would they call someone? Just act weird about it? Be cool with it? At this point, we really don't know.

Anyone have experiences like this? I'm sure many of you have. How did you handle it?

Schedule beatings and MD appointments not to coincide is how I handle it, personally. I don't like those conversations.

If I were getting someone marked, I'd pick a place where I knew they knew what was up (local community keeps good notes and has a few body modification pros in it) or I'd just go in with the "my money is green attitude" - here's the design, he wants it here.

I've thought of that. Of course, I didn't realize, until now, how long my bruises would last. The ones that went to the tattoo parlor with me were about 3 weeks old or older.

Oo, yeah - I haven't had this issue with M, he just doesn't get the big deep lasting bruising. Which is kind of a shame sometimes 'cause those can be fun.

I have very pale skin. Floggers don't really bruise me at all. The riding crop is a different story though, and those marks last for weeks. If they had seen fresh marks, I have no idea how they would have reacted. We joked afterwards that those guys were probably looking up bdsm after we left.

I bet they're kinky MF's who are at the "there's a name for this stuff?" stage, haha.

I'd played rather hard with Sir and a female friend who tops one Friday night - completely forgetting that I had a gyno appointment the following Monday  I'd had to wait six months to get it so I wasn't gonna cancel, but by Monday I had some lovely bruises all over my bum

I went to the appointment. Doc didn't even mention the bruises  And it wasn't like he didn't see 'em, they were very visible marks.

Sir did tell me to say, if the doctor said anything, just to say that I'd had some rough sex on the weekend and it was consensual.

I'm careful now not to play so hard when I know I have to have any medical exams :)

My girl and I have been playing a little harder of late and one night she got a load of riding crop welts over her ass. A couple of days later she tripped over and fell at the market, her little skirt rode up and displayed her thong and welts to all and sundry.

She was mortified but I thought it was a chuckle. :D

Okay, I'm not going to complain about mine anymore. lol

I've had a couple of embarrassing experiences relating to my wounds. One was completely my fault, not realizing that the shorts I was wearing weren't covering every bit of my things as I'd hoped. A second experience involved a little bit of purposeful humiliation... think of wearing a swimming suit when your body is one gigantic play mark! The third was a little more uncomfortable because I had to address it personally... going to get my pussy waxed and having to explain to the woman that there 'might be bruises left over' she laughed at me and said "let me guess, you bruise easy and he was hardly hurting you?" i said nothing.

That's what I had a problem with. I'm usually very open and I don't have a problem discussing almost anything. So I was surprised at how uncomfortable I felt when the woman giving me the tattoo asked about my bruises.
Of course, I get a little uncomfortable when my kids ask certain questions. We just had our dog fixed and my youngest thought his testicles were an extra butt. I was like, "Sure. That's what they are. Mama's getting his extra butt fixed."

or I'd just go in with the "my money is green attitude" - here's the design, he wants it here.

That's what my Goddess did when she had me tattooed about a year and a half ago. Fortunately, as well, I don't bruise that easily and my complexion tends not to show the milder ones. And even though people joke about female-on-male domestic violence, it DOES happen and the pros (e.g., docs and such) are supposed to report it. Tattoo artists, fortunately, aren't that kind of pro!

On the other hand, I once did send her to the ER with a bruised cervix . . . :( She has a tipped uterus and as a result of the position and, um . . . vigorous . . . nature of the intercourse, I bruised her and we ended up in the Emergency Department. Had to try to explain to a doc who looked and sounded much like Dr. Kovac on "ER" that "No, we weren't using toys," and then again a couple minutes later, "No, really, we were NOT using toys," and then a few minutes later again um, "NO WE WEREN'T USING TOYS!!! Honey, drop your pants and show the nice doctor what toy we were using!" That finally got him to shut up. I was a bit embarrassed by all that but swear to $DEITY it's a true story.

I know it may be embarrassing for you but consider yourself lucky you get to have bruises at all!
I work in the nude so bruises and marks are a big no-no.

I'm a little green over here. :)

I would consider well-done bruises and marks a plus on most people that work in the nude.

I'm flattered.
I'm pretty easy to recognize, I'm the only one who walks around with decorative rope around my forearm!

I'm always careful when Master visits or when Malin and I play because of the bruises. Granted, most of the marks they give me are bitemarks on my back or my buttocks. However Master loves to mark my neck and chin, sometimes up under my ear.

There are .. 3 ..er 4 people at work that know about our lifestyle. It's not something I publicize as I dont think my boss would understand. Normally I'd say.. screw it..none of your business... but unfortunately someplaces to promote or demote based on what they feel your moral character is.

So.. I have turtlenecks.. long sleeved and short for just such occasions... to cover up the marks until they fade.

I dont worry about it so much around Malin's parents because they're so used to us leaving marks on each other, that they dont say anything.
